By the end of his career, which doesn't seem too far away, Watson's story will be a sad tale.

He's been so maligned for the last 5 years due to the selectors blind faith in him that lots of Australian cricketing fans actually enjoy watching him fail, which is an indictment on our supporter base and a perfect example of Australian Tall-Poppy Syndrome.

Instead of being dropped for an extended period of time and being forced to earn his position through weight of runs, the selectors have "kept the faith" and left him in the side only for his confidence to be paper-thin. Yet all the hostility seems to be aimed directly at him.

Supporters have only expressed any enjoyment of his failures because of how frustrated they are of his continual selection.

He gets dismissed the same way every time. An international grade cricket should be able to address their technical flaws.

How is showing faith in a player doing wrong by him? If he truly believed he was not up to it he would be most welcome to say so.

1) People enjoy Watson failing because they don't believe in him, so when it happens they feel like they're some sort of genius. Besides, I don't really care about any justifications for enjoying the failures of Australian cricketers. If you're an Australian cricket fan and you express enjoyment when one of our own players fails - you're a ****wit.

2) That's a load of shit, he's been dismissed 4 times LBW out of his last 25 dismissals.

3) If someone is clearly not up to it, you drop them. Let them earn their way back into the team with some form and then see how they go. Don't leave them out their like a rotting carcass to get picked at.

1) You're exactly right. If somebody I relied on has constantly let me down in my profession, I would be gunning for his head also.
It's a professional sport mate. "Look, do you wanna play blind man? Go walk with the shepherd. But me, my eyes are wide farking open."

2) uwot m8? Are you serious? HE HAS A VERY BAD TECHNICAL FLAW. If you deny that you have no idea. Everything from his closed stance to temperament is awful. I cringe every time he plays forward to the ball. Who gives two shits if he nicks it or gets LBW?

3) URGH. Yeah, his form is the selectors fault.

"I was very disappointed to miss out, but in the end I only have myself to blame," Watson told the Cricket Australia website. "I have been very lucky and fortunate through my career to have plenty of opportunities, and I just didn't score enough runs. It's as simple as that. In the West Indies and the first (Ashes) Test as well. Shane "Watto" Watson.

It's nothing personal. He just has no place in the test team.

He basically gets out LBW against the poms in nearly every innings, it's truly stunning.

Wasn't aware that 13/35 (37.14%) is "nearly every innings"

The only thing 'truly stunning' is your stupidity and hyperbole.

Besides, who gives a **** about the form of dismissal? you don't get extra points for going out in different ways. All that matters is the score next to your name on the scoreboard.

Averages against England (career)
S Watson - 42.49
D Warner - 42.27
M Clarke - 41.75
S Smith - 41.07

So a batting all-rounder averages more in England than one of our opening batsmen?

Thanks for proving my point :thumbsu:
Inflated average from his awesome dead rubber century? HELLS YEAH!

For what it's worth, I don't rate Warner either. Him being better than a (IMO) poor player isn't a glowing endorsement, but that's for another discussion.

Really disappointed with your reply man, thought there was going to be a good counter punch to my first message :(
