Will be interested to see how Marsh deals with world class pace bowling in swinging conditions versus those benign conditions against Grade cricketers of Essex and Kent. My pick is he flops with bat and ball and they finally give up on having a genuine allrounder. Never used to have one until Freddie tore us a new one in 05 and since then it's the must have fashion accessory for Cricket Aus... not to the benefit of the team though.
 
Mitch deserves a chance

Mitch desires a decent chance like all other,players get ....like three or four tests

I've noticed some players get one of two tests and they are gone ...WATSON WAS GIVEN how many and still didn't succeed ....Watson career would get a pass mark by all means

But Watson had technical faults that we could all see and I'm sure coaches tried to fix

I would have got him to open his stance a bit ....in other words stand open so his front pad can get out of the way

His stance was very traditional and once he plonked his front foot down there was no way he could adjust or get his bat down ...opening his stance would have left the stumps exposed a bit but rarely do top order players get bowled. I have said this in other circket forums where basically it's so obvious.

Big blokes like watts simply can't move as quick ...he doesn't have fast twitch muscles so he mines like the queen Mary .....

Marsh dersves his chance .....I think he will get better to and yes he's got some rough edges to ion out also

But he's 23 and can bowl 140kmph and can hit the ball a mile ....the talent is there .....

I'm not convinced Watson was actually that talented but he's the best we had in terms of true all rounder

LastLy I'm so glad he's playing because my foot would have destroyed my TV if Watson had played ....

So I won't be getting a new LED TV

I look at broad and when he started as a test player and to be honest he was nothing special .....I can see marsh getting quicker as a bowler and becoming a very good player for us

Marsh better than Watson? Yep lock it in Eddie. Watson is useless. Watson is shit mate.

Averaged over 50 in the last couple of Shield seasons. No one can be worse than Watson, and I mean no one!

He has the potential to be, but I'm not sure an Ashes series is the time to be hoping a gamble comes off.

What about the season before, I know he has had 1 season where he averaged 60 odd, might have been the season before last. He missed a lot of last season as he was in the test squad/team. That is good for a number 5/6.

40. He's had one Australian FC season of 33, one of 40, one 23 and one of 20. Just one century in the shield. That is terrible for a number 6.

You said he averaged "over 50 for the last couple of seasons".

Which is still much better than Shane Watson over the same period probably and at least he won't get LBW every innings!

Would you rather us play a genuine losing player in Watson, or a gamble that may pay off. I know what I am taking 10 times out of 10.

Given you don't seem to know Marsh's stats, I'm not sure I see the gamble as that worth taking.

It's actually worse, but sure. Who cares if you get LBW.. you're out, you're out. David Warner is caught behind (slips cordon) a lot but you don't see people bitching about that?

Marsh is coming off back to back tons...you know matches where Watson didn't and he is quicker with the ball. Inconsistent yes, but we need wicketakers, not Watson bowling party pies for 10 overs a test. Without Watson that is 2 more reviews for everyone else. Not sure why you are wanting Watson after his gosh awful last 12 months.

Problem is he gets given, and then stupidly reviews it...and he costs the team every single time. You can go support Watson, I'll look forward to Marsh being better than Watson this test, which isn't hard.

Why not blame the guy at the other end? He asks them for an opinion and they say review.. It's a two person process unless you know you hit it.

They give Marsh the same amount of time Watson got.

I would consider S.Marsh though, we won't need an A/R in any other test bar Lords.
