Just wondering what program some of you web page designers use to create the pages. I am using frontpage at the moment but I find that it is difficult to publish the pages as not many of the freeservers have frontpage extensions. Can people please give me an idea on what program to use and which freeserver is best..... thankyou.

Frontpage? Bah!

Real web programmers write RAW HTML!

Use to use notepad all the time, became lazy. Frontpage 2000 and TextPad, which is just like notepad, but can pick out html errors, and is very handy for java applets.

Macromedia Dreamweaver.

Also use Flash and Fireworks.

Can do some nifty stuff. Shame i am too damn lazy to set up a full-blown website of my own.

i suggest you buy a book, and then write it into notepad

Thats how i did it because i found frontpage was a pain in the arse

I learnt it all in three days to make the following site:

http://www.users.bigpond.com/chevisiirm/

The only problem with cramming as I did, is I have no idea how to make one anymore. I didn't use any programs either!

Vis

PS I never quite got around to properly finishing it. I might do that in the summer holidays for the new WCW's!

I will tend to do simple layout in dreamweaver, but code most of it by hand - Dreamweaver 4 is great in that it has a split-screen mode... HTML code up top, your page layout at the bottom.

If I have to knock up something quickly and I need to know that the code is good, nothing beats Notepad. Unless of course it's HomeSite :D Best HTML editor around by far.

So in conclusion... 3 essential tools to the HTML coder's toolbox:

Notepad, HomeSite, Dreamweaver.

FrontPage sucks several different kinds of arse. The code that generates is horrible - same with NetObjects Fusion.

As for publishing.. As long as you have the HTML files, there's not much you CAN'T do. I don't know of any free servers that let you in with an FTP program, but let me know if you find any!!! :D
