What to do with #4?

The #4 guernsey has a great deal of history attached to it for the St Kilda Football Club. Lockett wore it for us, Thommo as well, and the history goes further back than that I think (anybody got the stats on the other greats for us who've worn the #4?).

So, what do we do with it now? Should Thommo give it to a young player, a la Burke's 3 with Xav, or Buckets' 23 with Kosi? Or should we follow Punter's suggestion with Harvey's 35 here, and just let the whole thing lie now that Thommo's retired?

really loved the passing on the jumper with Burke & Loewe.
To give it to a younger player - what about Sam Gilbert?
what was punter's suggestion?

The player who gets #4 should be young, promising, senior listed, and have a high, un-famous number at the club. Nominees are:

Sam Gilbert
David Armitage
Brad Howard

Not much of a list in terms of raw numbers.

Lockett went from 14 to 4, and Baldock, Breen & Lockett all played forward. However, Ball & Riewoldt knocked back 1 last year, and there is no reason to think any different will happen with 4.

So my nomination is Sam Gilbert.

(P.S. Retire 35 for a least a year if Banger retires.)

#4 is gilberts if he wants it. if 35 is up for grabs, have to nominate Armitage, to give the kid some more confidence, we all assume he will be playing more and more footy consistantly i think if we give it up he is the perfect candidate.

I agree with Punter about Harvey's number. In fact, I'd actually go a bit further, and suggest that we retire it permanently, just like the New York Yankees did with Babe Ruth's number 3. Apart from anything, would YOU want to be the person trying to live up to Harvey's shoes?

#4 should go to Gilbert, I agree with that!

#35 should be passed on, while I agree Harvs is worthy of having his number retired I think its good to hand it down and carry on the tradition. Armitage would be the most likely candidate I think but Harvs will go around again so we'll have a further year to decide on that one.
