I've had enough of all of these kents already.

Nothing would satisfy me more right now than drafting H.Reid and watch him kick a bag against the tin-rattlers.

And anyone else wanting to entertain splitting the pick in this massively compromised draft needs to give themselves an uppercut as well.

I'm starting to think we draft Reid with the idea he runs back home after 2, then get Curtis back around the same time after some development in the East. Then we get Band 1 compensation for Reid, get another top 2 pick and win/win. End up with Curtis and potentially another top 5 pick? thoughts?
Omg…this is becoming a sh*t show

Yes, I understand that West Coast are the most private club or all the clubs in the league and

The difference between this year and previous years in terms of rhetoric around being open to offers- the difference being pick quality. Generally the club talks about being open to trades in relation to run of the mill picks, not a pick that unlocks a player of Reid’s quality. So the circumstances are somewhat different.

Ordinarily I agree with you, but coming out and saying we will take a Reid seems a No-brainer.

Why are we even listening to offers?

I do give weight to ROB’s gettable interview though scoffing at proposed deals.
The commentary is not required. Actions will speak loudly.

Why would you engage in commentary with complete fruck knuckles like Gary Lyon and Kane Cornholing? Quite frankly, I doubt whether Terry Wallace will be sought out to give us his list management view of our list, even thought Barrett each year says he is the best in the business.

I am wanting a WCE scout to fly up to Gold Coast and have a conversation with Walter. If we pick you at 1 and Gold Coast can't match, would you be up to returning home to Perth? This will plant the issue loud and clear to the Suns that we will possibly bid on him at 1. This greatly impacts our ability to negotiate a deal with pick 4 if we want it.

Duane Massey and our scouting team are going to have to come up with if we go type X at this point, what would we do with our next pick? This will be one of the busiest 3 months the team have ever had. It could be as simple as Harley at 1 then wait for our picks, or we could be more active.

I expect the next 3 months will involve heaps of visits and scenarios. It will also mean ROB has his phone on and will take the calls from other clubs. This is not to say that we will split, but it will give a clear picture what splitting might look like. To say we are not open to split is naïve. Why come out and say we will not be open to a grandfather offer when we have not heard the offer?

We will have our draft board with talent. I expect we will look at and have had discussions as to what future picks might be worth and prospects there.

This is a great draft for getting specific needs. I particularly like the talls there and there are some options for KPD at each level. That is why I am less driven that it must be Curtin. I expect very big variations in what clubs see as best available after about pick 6.

If you are desperate for clarity, bad news is you might not even know until draft night.

I usually chuckle when the drop kicks in the media start giving trading and drafting grades. They usually give high marks for clubs who are active. Remember their grades for Collingwood in 2020? In hindsight moving on Treloar, Stephenson, Bosenavulagi and Phillips was brilliant. They got an F by Fox. They had 2 first round picks in the draft and were graded as A+. Henry with pick 14 (17) - now at Cats. Macrae with pick 16 (19) still in VFL McInnes points matched at 23 was the F/S top talent has played less than a dozen games. They traded up for Poulter and he has since been delisted and re-rookied at the kennel. They did nail a couple of good rookies but the media had no idea they would be that good.

So if you are seeking validation by Landsberger, Barrett, Kornes, King, etc, then there might be a better way to spend your time.

That’s not entirely true.

They have said they would be open to listening to offers, Nisbett’s interview late in the season when asked about Harley and the draft, answered in a very expansive fashion stating there were many good prospects in the draft.

While that’s far from conclusive, it does feel like the club conditioning supporters in the event of a pick trade. If Harley was unquestionably our guy, the club would come out and say as much.

There’s an open mindedness to trading the pick which adds fuel to the fire on reporting about trading the pick. The fact the club hasn’t quashed the story, either directly, or by feeding the media off the record is a statement in itself by omission.
The club never does but. They never quash a story until they are good and ready- nothing they like more than playing cards close to their chest. Simmo is Exhibit 1.
I don't read anything into it but I would say that they should be keeping an open mind and not shutting any doors 3 months out from the draft for 2 reasons.
1) We still don't know what the final draft order will be until after trade week and PPs, concessions and compensation picks are handed out. If for some reason North felt strongly enough to offer 2&3 for P1 then I think we should consider it strongly (McKercher and Curtin).
2) As much media attention as Reid has on him at the moment, I reckon it would reach a crescendo if we announced we were a monty to take him. Poor kid would cop 3 months of people in his ear saying he should do anything to not get picked rather than the speculation and pressure being directed at WCE to trade the pick..

I'll give it a crack.

We draft Reid because we know he will head home in two years, we then get Paul Curtis back from the Kangaroos despite the fact he's Victorian because in his heart he's a West Coast Eagles supporter. We then artificially age Reid to 25 years old so it appears he's been at the club for 7 years and therefore nets us a Band 1 compensation which will be top 2 regardless of our position on the ladder but could also be a top 5 pick.....oh yeah and Paul Curtis.

This could be interpreted another way.

The club is being deliberately ambiguous in order to hide their intention. It is not conditioning supporters or anyone for a trade.

If they came out and said ‘we’re definitely taking Harley and there are no ifs or buts’ what a pile on and sabotage campaign by the Vic media that would invite. It would probably be a lot of unneeded pressure on the young man apart from anything else. The sabotage campaign is in full swing as it is, what would it be like if they had a specific target to attack.

Clubs very rarely (never) signal their recruiting intentions months out from the event.

It’s pretty embarrassing but I guess this is the thread for it so no one to blame but myself
I'm just here for the hot goss(age)

for real though, we need more fun, slightly plausible but completely bullshit rumours.

the Darling thing was cooking and now that's died. Give me some heat people

On exposed form, I rate McKercher as the best mid in the draft where as I rate Harley as the best footballer. There in lies our dilemma
I’m a fan of a mid who can rest forward and be damaging. Reid looks like a cross between judd and Fyfe but he can kick.

His kicking really is a standout feature.

Ordinarily, players of his type don’t have great kicks. He really is extremely well rounded as a player. Can compete in their air, on the ground and he is the guy you want the ball in the hands of.

I wonder if we’d start him forward or back, obviously with stints in the middle.

I hope they do speak sooner rather than later.
Doesn’t Nisbett have fortnightly interviews with Papalia?

I know there would be a lot different issues to get across, retiree, simmo, bnf but I hope they do talk about pick 1.

Why would you give all the other clubs info to help them prepare their options?

We will listen to offers because some club may just offer silly overs we can't refuse.

Costs nothing to listen.

Jinxed

BOND 007 would this be enough?

Didn't Rohan come out and say there will need to be a couple picks in top 10 & even then....

I saw someone mention something about Melbourne getting hold of NM's #3 (on McKay's departure) & adding that to Freo's 1st pick they hold. So #3 & #6 would be a starting point I'd imagine.
