And anyone else wanting to entertain splitting the pick in this massively compromised draft needs to give themselves an uppercut as well.

Yeah I just went over and saw this. I'm sure the club immediately turned around and said "here is our prized asset kbai!" five minutes after the season ended without anyone catching wind of it for several weeks

That would be right around the time of Melbourne being "extremely confident" with pick 4 and ??? - it is obviously just all absolute nonsense at least until the initial order is set and McKay compo is decided.

I would also 100% believe that some people at these Vic clubs are massively overrating our interest in recruiting West Aussies and how little we would be willing to take to trade down.

To be fair though in that trade scenario the picks are pretty much decided. Pick 1 for pick 2 and Ports first isn’t going to change much if we know who we’re after at those picks (Curtin and one of the other West Aussies). Even if it’s something larger like their F1 involved it really doesn’t change much between now and the draft.

Just hope we aren’t dumb enough to consider something like that because we’ve been spooked. There will be plenty of pitchforks out if that’s the “agreed” deal.

Not gunna happen though. Curtin would be the steakknives in any trade. If we’re gunna split, it would be for McKercher or Duursma and then hope to get Curtin like we got Hewett last year. Can’t see us splitting just to get Curtin at 2. He’s a nice to have but not a need.

If they do this deal it’s also evidence that we’ve caved into the pressure of not selecting highly rated players outside WA anymore and that we should expect this a lot more going forward. Last year it can be put down to it being a perfect scenario for a trade but if we do it this year it sets a dangerous precedent in regards to our bargaining position in the future.

Honestly If we trade down pick 1 for pick 2 and ports pick id genuinely lose interest in this club moving forward. I mean I absolutely love my eagles but we have become a soft club the past few years. Trading down for something that no other club would do would be bizarre.

Wowee, a peanut North supporter has posted about a pick 1 “done deal” made weeks ago and a dozen blokes have laid an egg! Fellas. He’s absolutely 100% full of s**t.

VERY recently, I spoke face to face with an Eagles player who I have had a bit to do with professionally, I’m obviously not going to name him but he’d be in the first half a dozen blokes picked each week. I asked him flat out if we’re taking Reid with pick 1 and without hesitation he looked me straight in the eye and said “as it stands yes we are”. I also spoke directly to a well known footy journo TODAY who personally I regard as the most reliable in the industry (particularly when it comes to the Eagles) and he said there is 100% absolutely no mail coming out of WCE, Demons or North of any even proposed (let alone “done”) deal regarding pick trading between any or all of those clubs.

I’m not saying the word of above player and reporter should be taken as gospel and that they know exactly what’s going on in recruiting, or that it means that there’s no situation in which ROB and crew end up trading pick 1, but if I was a betting man (which I am) and I had to put money on either:
A player that I don’t see would have any reason to bulls**t to me regarding pick 1 and a highly regarded footy journo having no knowledge of any such deal

OR

some BF hack trying to make a name for himself because he’s lonely, I know who my money is on.
Even disregarding the above, to suggest that a pick deal between two clubs has been agreed to weeks ago, almost two months out from draft night, when the final order, let alone the final offers have not even been decided is the absolute height of stupidity and there is no scale that level of ignorance can be measured on. In a situation where we could just grab Curtin with 1, getting a late first rounder and Curtin can only be seen as a good deal.

Also I suspect we'll be sending Port's second and/or Port's third rounder back in the deal too if they have to match a Sanders bid.
