okay assuming we get Kirsten. then we have McCarthy, Kirsten, Apps, tabs, Yazza all fighting for three spots with balla and Sony two smalls and if Clarke stays then he and Sandi will rotate thru forward pocket? For 6th spot

Now tabs came to us as a defender and I'm expecting johnno to not make it to RD 10 with his back and soft tissue concerns. Play tabs down back has a decent left foot on him( more left footers in back half the better)
That way Dawson can keep Suban and Ibbo company down at peel.

Back 6

Spurr Collins A Pearce
Balic. Tabs crozier

Now if we can get Hambling then Collins would need to wait his turn at peel. BTW if hambling is in then silva is very much surplus to requirements

Not sure im comfortable with Tab at CHB, drops ALOT of marks and has serious confidence issues.
Did show some glimpses of what hes capable of, I can see them sticking with him for Round 1

HF Walters Kirsten Tabs
FF Yarran McCarthy Weller

Then rotate Bennell, Fyfe, Sandi, Clarke through there?

Kersten fights with Tabs for the one spot.

Or Tabs learns to ruck and fights the Apeness. And I am aware that Tabs needs an awful lot of improvement in the ruck before that would be considered.

Had similar stats to Kersten last year, even after fading in the second half of the year, Apeness played 5 games last year for 3 goals and McCarthy played no games at all last year. With Pav retiring and Mayne leaving, he's (on exposed form) probably the best tall forward we currently have, why are we assuming he will be depth next year?

Cannot see Tabs as a defender.

He's a serviceable tall forward and I expect, and hope, that we see more improvement from him in 2017 as a forward.

Since when? Bar perhaps the odd quarter, Taberner has played his whole career at the club as a forward. Considering he's just starting to get the hang of that I doubt it's wise to throw him into a completely new position. If I had to choose between Dawson and Tabs as key defender I'd be choosing Dawson every time as you know he's at least got what it takes to at least reduce the impact of his opponent.

If I was going to change Tabs role I'd be moving him up the ground and playing him on the wing or as a high half forward. His strengths are his endurance and marking on a lead, and considering he has a fairly reliable field kick I think he could adapt into a Riewoldt type role quite well. Otherwise he'll be competing with McCarthy and Apeness for the two key forward spots in the side.

Forward line can fit all of Kersten, Tabs, CMac and Yarran in.

Yarran takes over Ballas spot as a small forward. Kersten takes Mayne's, Tabs takes Tabs and CMac takes Pavs. Easy.

The big decision methinks is between Apeness and Clarke as Sandi's foil.

This. It's Tabs v Kersten v Apeness for 2 'tall' spots with one presumably going to one who can chop out in the ruck.

Tabs to defence is madness. Not a smart footballer.

Huh? Don't think so.

I think too many people underrate Tabs. I have him in front of Kersten at this point and Tabs is still on the improve.

I think you'll be looking at Apeness as a stay at home forward with Tabs and McCarthy used as mobile talls. Kersten and Tabs willl be fighting it out for the third tall unless Apeness is used in ruck. Having depth up forward isn't really a bad thing I'm thinking.

It's not exactly quality depth though. We just have a bunch of blokes that can play key forward, none of which do it very well. Yet.

Tabs was a midfielder who had a huge growth spurt and transitioned into a KPF. Any talk of him being a defender is balony with the exception of that one derby.

Taberner will continue to play CHF, as he is now the most experienced KPF on our list. Will only be pushed out if Apeness forces his way into the 22 as a full-time KPF.

Walters McCarthy Clarke/Apeness
Kersten Taberner Yarran

Rotations: Weller/Langdon/Bennell/Sandilands/Fyfe

No argument with that but I think you'll see McCarthy's best in 2018 and likely Tabs by then as well. I think we've seen Kersten's best but maybe with better forward delivery we can see more improvement than is first apparent.

I am just glad we have the depth that we need. McCarthy is the only real star from a talent point of view but I reckon Kersten will get a fair crack based on them trading for him.

Whatever the makeup of the team, one thing was for sure, the forwards are all young and inexperienced so they are all going to have periods being out of form and now thankfully we should have someone ready to take their place and to keep the pressure on.

This. Tabs is improving all the time and in glimpses when Pav was not playing played very well when delivery was ok. Kersten, McCarthy and Tabs are competing for two mobile tall forward places on each wing. Who gets first crack will depend on the pre-season and NAB cup. Apeness/Clarke/211 may all play in the same team but one would always be on the bench at any given time. Walters/Ballas/Langdon probably competing for 2 spots in the forward line maybe one on the bench at any time.
