What unpopular AFL opinions do you have? Part 2

My unpopular opinions seem to be getting more popular, like how the rules are killing the game, I think rolling scrums maybe even mentioned on the sycophantic foxfooty cash cow for former footballers, even Gerard Healey says the rolling nonsense scrums look woeful , it has to come out of the game. WHO TELLS UMPIRES TO HOLD OFF THE WHISTLE , THIS SIMPLY CREATES PACKS WORSE AND WORSE , any one know why we might want to resemble rugby.

Packs and scrums and congestion form naturally. The whistle breaks it up.

As Mao said that peace comes from the barrel of a gun, so too free flowing footy comes from the whistle.

Dustin Martin is having an average season and shouldn't be any where near the top of the Brownlow betting market.
Might not be so unpopular actually. But going over his season, if people are being honest he should have realistically only polled in about 3 games.

When a gun player from an opposition team gets injured before the game against my team, I feel sorry for them on a personal level.

Inside, I am gloating and hoping that it weakens the others so that we can win.

I like watching the best players play, just would rather watch them play as a neutral.

The AFL does not care if the SA or WA clubs ever win a premiership. They are happy as there supporters continue to turn up even for Sunday games . They continue to offer them shit deals when it comes to accademies .
Will always be the case.AFL is a business and it knows it doesn’t have any real competition in any state other than NSW and QLD.Stating the obvious but create some competition and the AFL will care

By his standards, sure; but if some battler like Ziebell was having the 2018 season that Dusty is, he’d sit in every AA team.

Why do Vic clubs get a better deal?
Because they cop heat from Vic Media and McGuire etc and the AFL heavyweights are all basically located in Vic.Conversely if they cop heat from WA media it’s not in there face daily. They can brush it off as u say because the crowds are always good.

NSW market will always be valuable because of the ratings provided by the casual football follower eg .Will there ever be two more passionate teams in an AFL grand final.Arguably Vics biggest team the Tigers coming off a 38 year Drought.Basically all Victorian’s are watching. Then the crows massive passionate following in SA so the whole state is watching(Port hoping they lose).Yet this game still doesn’t outrate swans Grandfinals.Even GWS prelim versus Dogs.We would have the smallest supporter base in the country but this game was the highest rating game of all time outside grand finals .Why?Casual supporters.Academies play a massive indirect part in this going forward for QLD and NSW.Simply speaking though there’s no competion to the AFL in Wa and SA and Tasmanians already watch AFL so academies will always be more important in developing markets

That is so wrong , and you don't even know why I think. Packs are the most horrible look these days. Why?

IN THE PAST THEY SMALL WITH THREE OR FOUR PLAYERS AROUND THE BALL AND QUICKLY FINISHED!

Because the packs that form now , sometimes can have up to 10 to 20 or more players scrambling around, sometimes for half a minute, that is what Healy was talking about.

The whistle as you say clears pacs, well it should, the point is my fellow football fan,
is, THAT IT DOESN'T BREAK THEM UP AT ALL.

In fact the whistle "hold off" keeps these horrid scrappy scrimmages going and going and going, what the whistle usually does is give the ball back to the umpire, who, balls it up again and then we get another pack!!!!!!!

I have seen some umpires ball up on several occasions after the first formed pack, it can stay stagnant in that area , of the dozen to two dozen players involved in the scrimmage, for seconds or way over the top and go over a minute.

IT DOES NOT STOP PACKS AND IT DOES NOT OPEN UP THE GAME! Full stop.
If that's what you reckon you see the game open up? You must be at the soccer .

The other terrible thing it does , is some players who manage to get hold of it, and slam it on the boot to "ANYWHERE" and half the time hits an opposition player . Because he is scrambling like a mad man, just to get hold of of the ball let alone kick it.

The other thing that happens , and Healy said this too, that in his example he showed on TV 2 free kicks in the pack that were ignored, AND YET sometimes we all see some petty piece of rubbish free kick pulled out , when maybe every player in the pack on the ground could claim a free kick .
But no, the ump must simply say to himself well I better clear this up, so, I'll pull a free out of somewhere. And does.

And the fans watching half the time haven't got a clue what the free is for.

If you really watch a few games you'd see this happening regularly. It looks bad and it makes our beautiful game once open and skilful look like second rate suburban football, in fact some suburban footy is probably better where coaches don't have to invent lock down scrubby play to win at all costs.

Now people who read my stuff and some might say this bloke is nuts, he never shuts up , well I've been sent nuts by the way this Australian Rules of ours at its highest level has been changed to the point where ,AND I'LL SAY IT AGAIN"!!! where the free and open footy skills of the past have disappeared into a cloudy pack of scrums, and less talented playing pool, STOPPAGES , when did that word become a main stay in football, DON'T STOP , is what coaches need to be able to say to their players.
And hope that they can carry out the FOOTBALLER skills that are needed to pass and mark and play with precision .
But they can't many of them .

That is why this game is being ruined! And you bet, expansion has a hell of a lot to do with this.

If you don't see it, watch the whole weekend of footy and maybe you might think twice.

This doesn't mean some games aren't good , I 'm not that stupid I love this game, but I hate what some of it is turning into now days.

Whats been done to it by introducing new clubs new rules , when with 16 we were already nearly over numbered .

Hows that for an answer, I would love to hear your answer with detail .
This game ten and more years ago, was a much much better spectacle , and no one else on the planet played anything like it.

Now we even put out a bleeding AFLX on a rectangular ground . For cryin out loud.

WHATS THE THINKING BEHIND THAT??????????????????????????????????????? But I am not a backward mover , I like the AFLW, AS LONG AS THEY DON'T OVER CROWD THAT GAME, WITH TOO MANY TEAMS, OR THEY'LL KILL THAT TOO.

GIL RETIRE PLEASE!

With Dusty though, he needs to be compared with other midfielders since that is where he primarily plays (he is dangerous when he goes forward but enough an in-form forward of an All-Australian gig). So far there are way too many playing better footy who have had better seasons. But he may become the next Selwood or Pendlebury. Getting nominations or spots in the team for having a 'good' season and not a great one.

Pendlebury is the opposite of that

I am right though.

If there is a problem with the look of AFL football in 2018 it is not congestion but rather the inability of many players to execute fundamental skills at an elite level. From terrible decision making to poor foot skills to an inability of the vast majority of players to mark the ball in a genuinely contested situation ( eg: not the very generous champion data interpretation of a contested mark ) there is a top level skill shortage in the great game.

People who legitimately have actual hatred for a team are sad and pathetic. I see it on here a lot with the SA and WA fans. Like yeah you can have friendly banter but when it comes to shit like "I loved it when Nic Nat injured that big oaf Sandi" and "Wingard is a dog campaigner" it gets a bit much. It's fine if it's just playing it up for an upcoming match, but real hatred is just pathetic. What did they ever do to you?
