So what do you think our mighty club needs in the upcoming afl draft ? I reckon we need a ruckman as we now only have barnes, alessio and then david hille who is untried,if one or both of barnes or alessio go down then we are in big trouble which is why eastaugh shouldnt have been axed. Hopefully Judd Lalich gets a go this year as I like his game.

need another ruckman to develop
from what i hear hille is ready to go but still need another one there
maybe a tall backman to release wellman to the wing and give fletcher more flexibility up forward
an attacking onballer, someone like mcleod, if we could get a kid like that it would be good for in a few years time to step in for long and mercuri
and maybe just anther rover, hopefully dylan smith is still around at pick 17

Yeah another tall backman would be handy, although we can expect Aaron Henneman to develop very quickly.

Another onballer/forward as someone suggested would be worthwhile as well.

Think we're right for ruckman as Hille is a bright prospect...very Matthew Allen like from what I've seen. If Barnes and Allessio break down, we've got the luxury to throw in Lalich, or even trial Hille. They made the right decision in delisting Eastaugh though.

Other than that we've got some promising kids in the two's to bring through. Ladhams, Posiadly, Forster Knight to name a few. Just a few top ups in the positions mentioned will suffice.

wow- our own little cubby house !!!

& If we ignore the trolls they'll go away, PLEASE dont respond to "them".

Anyways- this might be a little controversial- but hell, do we REALLY need a great new ruckman ????

It seems like weve done very well, with a pair of ruckmen, who havent exactly dominated the centres and boundary throw/ins, this year.(did we win a single tap in the GF ????)

Weve had guys like Blake, Blumfield and some of the good "vertical leap" guys fill in quite admirably, and do the job required in these situations, mostly throw ins tho. Maybe this is the future of footy ???

Rather than particularly tall, slower r/men, we'll have more flexible mid range players, who have a great vertical leap (which is increasingly important these days- check the draft stats)- who can match a taller player, but also move around the ground with better mobility.

hmmm- an idea anyway.

what do yez reckon ?????

A.

I tend to agree with you Arch, this year we didn't win a lot of the centre taps , but our players seemed to get the benefit of the tap outs anyway. I think they had the opposition rucks worked out & knew where to place themselves to take the ball away from the centre hit outs anyway.

Sorry to step onto the Essendon turf so to speak, but I think the Essendon outfit doesn't really need any drastic changes.

The only news I've heard lately of Essendon is that they were keen to get Ric Charlesworth's services.

I think a top ruckman is essential in a top club. Not "necessarily" for the tap outs (although that does help), but for the around the ground work. A ruckman who can follow the ball all day and take big marks is invaluable. Look at Matthew Allan from Carlton.

If Barnes of Alessio were unavaialbe, we are in trouble in that department (in my opinion). We need to develop a top youngster who can develop into a capable player. It's hard to stress how important ruckman are until you watch Jim Stynes's 1991 season, or Scott Wynd's 1992 season, or Salmons revival at Hawthorn, or Matthew Allan's last two years at Carlton.

I'd love to get someone like Mark Porter at Essendon.

i think we do need another ruckman but not someone to throw staight in
hille and lalich are good backups at the moment, and even robran
we need another young ruckman
when barnes has finished hille will be ready to step in
leaving hille and alessio as our key big men
when alessio is finished hille should be ready to take the number one role and hopefully we will have another kid in the ranks who has had a couple of vfl seasons to develop

SRobbo hille is more of a white/barnes ruckman, fit and mobile
as for podsiadly, he was a rookie this year and i dont think he will get redrafted to the rookie list
the ones to look out for will be mcgrath (could be that attacking onballer we need)
switala- fast, onball/wingman with good skills and penatrating left foot
henneman- we've all seen him, big future
mcalister- i still have high hopes for him even though a lot have dismissed him
mcveigh- small forward, perhaps rover, great over head skills for a small player
and of course dean rioli- no one has seen what his best really is, this guy is a freak
plus there is also lalich, bolton, pickett, forster-knight.
if we can pick up another 3 or so young players and give them time to develop then the club should be in good sted for the next ten years atleast

I've had a very good teacher.

Don't have my accent down just yet but I'm working on it. Someone told me I did a good Gerard Healy impression.
