its no secret that our forward structure is in need of major work and our biggest area of concern. So lets assume, for the sake of the topic, Bradshaw doesn't play much even in 2011, because we cannot and should not be relying on him, else we will set ourselves up to fail.

So what is our forward structure to be. How are we to kick consistent winning scores, what will be different in 2011. Will Jesse White all of a sudden find his mojo and become the new brown, or will our midfield become so slick in their ball delivery, that our forwards wont be able to do anything but kick bags of goals - and who are our forwards anyway?

15 goals from 14 games this year doesn't do much for me

Yes he's on the fringe at the Crows ATM But Mr Ray Swan you don't understand why.

Porps did not have pre season at all and like all players who dont has been suffering not only the effects of being unfit but Adeilade have a functioning forward line without him at the moment.

Go back to last season when the crows where charging to the finals and Porps was everywhere and raking in big games. He is the sort of cross over marking forward to HFF that could be very handy. The sort of player who can take the pressure of our main forwards, get some ball up the flanks on the big grounds where we struggle and also kick goals and take some marks over hte packs. Where Jesse and Bradshaw have both struggled in 2010. He provides that movement back and forwards that we are missing so much of.

His forms off but next year all things on fitness being equal hell have another big year. I'd like it to be with us.

Give him a call ;)

I doubt we'll get Jason Porplyzia over to the Swans, because, we have a similar play to him and his name is Patrick Veszpremi. I am bewildered, why Roos has not played him all year, as well as Lewis Johnston. Both are natural forwards and both should have been played. I have said that for the last month or so.

I feel we'll be losing Veszpremi though next year, which will be a shame to see him star at another club. I don't care if he is under contract or not. Contracts mean nothing during trade week. Look at Schneider and Jolly? Both were contracted to us and both were traded. We have had a make-shift forward line for the last few weeks, for which we shouldn't need to. A move like Rhyce Shaw to the forward line, is only ever going to work once or twice a season, not throughout, that's why I highly stressed out that Veszpremi should have been in the side.

We also need speed in the midfield. Hopefully the likes of Tom Mitchell whom we'll pick up under the father-son rule, can rectify that. We also probably need a tall-defender and probably should draft 2 of them, just in case of injuries like this year. Delist Ted Richards, I was a fan of him but, he is past it now. Players like Paul Bevan should also be delisted. Gutsy player, but that's all he is, all heart, but lacks polish.

Retaining Henry Playfair on our rookie list, was another bad mistake by Roos. We should have persisted with Daniel O'Keefe or picked up another player. Playfair should never have played on this year.

The suggestion of trading the likes of Jarrad McVeigh is ludicrious. Jarred Moore is the one most likely going to be traded by the club, even though, we'll probably won't get much for him.

We need more young midfielders with class like Daniel Hannebery, that is willing to break lines and have beautiful skills. He is a bright light in a season that has gone bleak for us. It's just a shame we missed out on Dustin Martin.

Moving on Barry Hall may have been a bad mistake in my opinion looking on in hindsight. I felt that he still owed us big time, imagine him kicking 60 goals for us this year? We would have been the ones, fighting for a top 4 spot, instead of the Bulldogs.

Some of the selection changes this year by Roos and Co. has been bewildering, to say the least. I thought he panicked after the loss against Collingwood. I felt that, he was so gung-ho about beating them, that when we didn't, he took it out on the team and the fact he didn't make any changes last week, also left me baffled.

I also think, the players could have some kind of media ban. Every week, they come out in the press and say that they'll improve on this and improve on that, but they don't. Just today, the Swans website had Goodes saying, that an honourable loss wouldn't do tonight. Well, I don't think tonights loss was honourable, was it?

Also our kick-ins need to improve big time. I cannot re-call us having too many coast to coast goals, as well as improving our forward line pressure. Time again, we allow the opposition to rebound far too easily from our forward 50, even when we win. That has been a big concern for me.

I doubt we'll be playing finals this year and I doubt, we'll probably win another game, especially, if we lose to the Hawks next week.

Very frustrated at the club and where it's heading right now.

LJ should hopefully get some game time towards the end of this year as we should now acknowledge the need to look to next year. Sam Reid and LJ should each get a game or two before the year is out, with the aim to have at least LJ ready to go for Round 1 next year.

A forward line of LJ, White and Goodes looks much more comforting and reliable than one including Bradshaw. Veszpremi is definitely on the outer because of issues not to do with his footy - whether that be attitude, fitness, whatever it is, constantly whining that he isn't being played and blaming Roos for being an idiot isn't exactly fair when we don't know the full story.

Moore is quite a reliable crumber in my books, his forward pressure is great, and the flashes he showed in the midfield towards the end of last year show me that he can be at least a serviceable player of the ilk of Buchanan during his 04-06 period.

Add in guys like Rohan and Jetta who - hopefully - will begin to kick goals next year, as well as TDL, and our forward line hopefully begins to take on some consistency. Meredith also looks like a bit of class in the midfield who can drift forward, and ROK is still hanging around the midfield when we need him.

To me, the forward line isn't too out of whack, it just needs a bit of time to age and mature for the likes of Jetta, TDL, White and LJ. I know Roos has come out and said White shouldn't be treated as a youngster anymore, but he definitely needs to be treated as our number one forward over this off-season, rather than a third option when Braddy and Goodes are having down days. He's our future, as is LJ, not Braddy, so treat him as such and actually work with him to develop his game more strongly, rather than as a back-up option.

I'd like to get some gametime into Johnston and TDL this year as they are both important players in regards to our forward line's future. Realistically we aren't going to win the premiership so i would like to see Roos and Horse look to the future.

really concerned that we need some fresh coaching eyes in 2011, but that isnt going to happen. i think with the quality of young players coming through, some of the decision making about who gets game time is totally bizarre.

I hope for Roosy's sake and even more so for Kirky, that they can at least get a couple of good wins in before the seasons end.

It would be a real shame for Captain Kirk to not see another win and to just get hammered every week for his last few games. That is absolutely NO WAY for one of the clubs legends to go out.

I really hope Kirk comes back as an Assistant Coach in a few years. His leadership and experience would be a great help to breathing some fresh life into our coaching structure.

Roosy going out and criticising White surprised me. Jesse worked very hard from where i was sitting and had Scarlett hanging off his arm all bloody night, yet was not given a free. Seriously, every marking contest Jesse had Scarlett scragging and holding on to his arm, making him only able to go at the ball with one hand. It happened so many times yet the umps sat back and did nothing.

And besides that, it's a bit rich to say that Jesse needs to do more when he is the only tall forward up there. He pretty much has to all the marking work, all the bullocking work and the leading by himself until Goodes gets down there. We just desperately need another tall in there somewhere. Just give Johnston a go.

Bottom line, we will not kick scores consistently if Jesse is down there with Shaw, Moore, McVeigh, Jude (what started the 2nd half as the forward line). That is not going to kick goals. Why not find a spot for some natural attacking goal kickers. Johnston, TDL, Rohan, Vez. Give a couple of them the game this week with Jesse with perhaps McGlynn and Shaw in the forward line and perhaps we might kick a score.

I agree with the last couple of comments. I too was a bit surprised by the critisism of White, especially given our forward issues. He led strong and hard all night, and would have had more of the footy had our guys been a bit quicker making a decision to kick into his space.

I can however, understand where Roos is coming from in regards to imposing himself on the a contest. I have been critical of him for quite some time in regards to this and the high ball.

He will get there, I have little doubt.

Our forward line looks good in the future, so I am not concerned. I will take Porps if he is available though!

For all the criticism of our forward line the simple truth is at the start of this year Bradshaw was FF with Goodes at CHF. This worked very well until Bradshaw got injured.

Roos has and always will pick his best available 22. This has been part of his formula for success. It got 2 grand finals for 1 flag, plus numerous finals appearances.

If we beat Hawthorn this week, at our home ground, then we have a realistic chance of finishing 6th and gaining a home final, although it would be played at that arseh*le place Homebush.

Based on expectations at the start of the year, and last years finish, any finals appearance will be a bonus.

As for next year, injuries to our top 12 will dictate where we finish. It has this year so I cant see it being any different.

I'm not sure about Longmire but the decision has been made so we must deal with it. I personally would have liked the club to go hard for Matthews but that wont be happening.

Nobody is arguing against that. It is just now we are playing a forward line of Jesse White + a rebounding defender (who has been good at times) + 3 or 4 midfielders (Jude, JPK, Kirk, Hanners, McVeigh) + 1/2 an Adam Goodes (can't spend the whole time up forward, though when he did he looked as dangerous as ever). We aren't gonna kick a score with that set up often enough to win a game. I just want to see a few actual forwards playing up there permanently. A forward line of the following i would love to see this week:

F: McGlynn White TDL
HF: ROK Johnston Shaw

Would also love to see Vez play this week, but as always, probably not a high chance of that happening. Though i hear he played forward yesterday which may or may not be an indication they are getting him ready to play there in the coming weeks (I am glass half-full by nature).

I agree that a finals spot this year would have been a bonus realistically, and many of us (myself included) set the bar too high probably early in the year (though if we had something like our best 22 out there most weeks i believe we would be a very very capable side).

I'm waiting Mr PB. to come on actually. Jesse White has been getting served on two Melbourne radio stations - one before ROOS presser last night and labeled a one dimensional forward who cant take contested marks and can only be in a contest if the ball hits him lace out on a lead and than it's 50-50 if he holds it anyway.

Frankly I think it was a bit harsh as Scarlett's the top stopper in the comp and Jesse is not completely a work finished either, coming to the forward line later than his draft counterparts, but I am going to wait to hear Mr PB and Mr FU response to the AW and SEN.

Hopefully Longmire works out how to set up an effective forward line structure. For such a smart coach and capable footballer Roos had no idea about the forward line. We were one of the lowest scoring teams during his era and if you exclude the really poor teams our forward line was the least effective of all the better teams. This is a sad indictment on our tactics if you consider the talent we had available. We will not improve in 2011 unless we can fix our offensive tactics.

Our biggest problem was winning 5 in a row early in the season and looking like we would make the finals. It took our focus from rebuilding and playing kids, to hanging on and trying to make the 8.

Out - Bevan, Moore, Richards, Kirk (next yr),

In - Vez, LJ, TDL, Rohan

true, Roos has always built his side on a defensive set up. He openly says this and for the large part it has served him well. Now however we are seeing the downside of that strategy, as the game has sped up too much to rely on having great defence. You must score and score frequently. This is not Roos strength, so lets hope Longmire is vastly different in that regard. This is what NEEDS to change from 2011.

Sighhh ... I thought you observant bstards had worked it out ... the old mr bateman has had a name change, kinda like several stadiums ... got sick of running into that Geelong fan, Patrick Bateman, so this is me.

As for last night, I missed the entire match, and in fact have seen almost none of our past two games.

It would be remiss of me to make too many comments but, just based on what I've read here, it seems harsh to be singling out White for criticism when our midfield seems to have once again been dominated, and White seems to have been without much decent service and little forward line support in terms of structure.
