With over half the population eligible to receive the $950 bonus at least once, I am curious as to what people will do with it. Will it go towards the mortgage? a holiday? savings? or will you just go blow it?

I'm pretty sure my bonus will just be treated as disposable income and be used as beer and smoke money.

Who is getting the $950.00??? is it low income people or middle income do you have to be a single parent or a pensioner??? Forgive me for being cynical but last time i looked if you had ten kids you got $1000.00 for each one at xmas and so did the pensioners:thumbsd:. is this 950.00 going to people who work hard and who are on low income?????? people who are really struggling right now and finding it tough.

I better get it.I'v ebeen struggling for some time. Its about time low income earners got something.Am I right in saying you get it based on your 07-8 tax return and thats how they will know who to send the cheques to.So if you're got no kids do you still get it??? LOL coz serioulsy people even without kids need it!!!!!

SO, am I correct in saying that IF someone earns less than $80,000, then the ONLY way for them to NOT GET the $950 is if they are:

-completely un-employed (im presuming "employed" includes part time and casual -on the books jobs)

OR

uni students who do not qualify for Youth Allowance or Aus Study etc?

..Seems pretty unfair to uni students who don't have Youth Allowance, and surely no one files a tax return of zero dollars (ie completely un-employed)?

So its ONLY uni students missing out??

If you are at uni and don't have a part time job then you are mad. Most of the ones that don't have Youth Allowance have part time jobs, and even some of us are greddy and still work part tim efor some extra pocket money.

Mine will probably going into savings. :thumbsu:

I didn't get the last handouts and wont be getting these, and while i'm at it we get next to no reimbursement for having 2 kids in with ABC. Basically this is poorer people getting given handouts from wealthier people, these poorer ones who have made all the stupid decisions to go into sh-tloads of debt and now need bailing out. I hope the media remember this when the govt give their tax cuts, it wouldn't be right for them to just go all out highlighting how the rich have got more out of whatever cuts than the poorer and more needy.

Nothing for me.

But I'd say that Rudd's fear mongering will create the opposite effect of what he wants. Surely most will tuck it away for a rainy day!

As for free insulation. I'd be cracking the champagne if i was an insulation installer.

Fixed rebate is much better, and add double glazing too.

Dunno. Pay off some debts maybe. Uni books, new laptop or something. We'll see.

a) pay off debts........no stimulus
B) Uni Books......maybe some
c) Laptop......import......minor retailer stimulus

Rudd hasn't got a clue.

We need capital spending. People tend to do that by borrowing, which flows through the economy.
Borrowing is determined by your ability to make the repayments.
One offs don't work. A tax reduction could.

Just a clarification. If we do qualify for it twice, we only get one payment yeh?

I'm on youth allowance and I earn less than 80k. Surely they wouldn't give a 20 y.o. kid $1900.

Not 100% sure, but I'd say it's twice. The tax return payment is independent from the youth allowance

The Training and Learning Bonus consists of two categories:
Category 1

  • A one-off $950 bonus for recipients of: Youth Allowance (students and apprentices); Austudy; ABSTUDY and related payments
