Opinion What would you prefer?

Pick 4 from Melbourne for Dawes & Wellingham package deal.

Pick 13 from Melbourne for Dawes

Pick 17 from Eagles for Wellingham

My question for the fine folk of this board is, would you rather 2 lesser first round picks in the latter options, or one Top 5 pick for the same outgoing players?

I think I prefer the 2 picks myself, but don't follow the draft closely enough to know what #4 could get us compared to #13 and #17.

Without having a great knowledge of the quality of the upcoming draft, I would suggest Pick 13 & 17 >>> Pick 4 with not much confidence. Happy to accept this is wrong if pick 4 is going to score Collingwood a future gun.

A good question. If we retained 18, then I'd definitely be for pick 4.

If we had to give up 18 and Wellers and Dawes, I suspect we'd be be getting 4 and 13.

A net of 13, 17 and 18 is not a terrible proposition though. You'd be pretty satisfied with that.

If Pies want to continue finals for another decade they need to get picks now.

Last year Bucks blooding A few 20-21 year olds and showed "decent" contribution has allowed them flexibility to not drop off much if any at all if they do trade 1-2 best 22 players.

Three first rounds picks would be a dream. Hine has a great record of getting talent deep in the draft, but we really need early picks to get a couple of stars to add into the mix.

I have such faith in our recruiting dept I would prefer to give them two extra picks- They rarely waste them.

If the objective is to land a known quantity who could be elite (i.e Caddy or very left field Sam Reid) then we should secure pick 4 (and trade for the aforementioned) and retain 18.

Otherwise I would be more than happy to keep picks 13, 17, and 18 - I think we are long overdue to go to draft and pick up the available talent

I'd take top 4 in the super-draft easily, especially if we retain 18. Could do with another Pendlebury quality player for the future and probably present.

I would prefer the 3 picks in the first rd with the talent spotting and development the club would be looking pretty good in the very near future ie next season and into the future.

So yes I think 3 picks would be great just what we need and I agree Williams and Mooney will be pushing for selection on a regular basis next year and both have a bit of toe just need to tidy up Williams disposal and he will be handy.

Why would Wellingham go to Melbourne? My understanding is he wants to stay at Collingwood, but the lure of going home is drawing him west. If he were to stay in Melbourne he'd be signing up with us. So I'm not sure why pick 4 is being talked about, as that is no chance.

This is unrealistic. I doubt either club will sweeten the deal with a player particularly West Coast. This kind of trading also poses troublesome list management issues for us. It would require us to find two additional list spots and essentially results in two delistings we otherwise wouldn't have made.

Most years I'd take pick 4, but this year with the whole top 20 pretty even I'd take 13+17.
13+17+18 would be big for us and with our strong development program adding that many 1st rounders could really evelate our side.

That said I wouldn't not take pick 4 if offered.

I prefer to keep Dawes.

No way we can do a package to Melbourne unless theres trading picks involved so if Dawes goes I want a first round pick for him minimum.

Wellingham is more easily replaced but is worth a late first round early second round pick on his own.

Martin and 13 for Dawes?? Melbourne wouldnt do 13 for Dawes WITHOUT martin, so that wont happen either.
I'd love Martin, Reid, Caddy, Pick 4, 13, 17 & 18! But let's be realistic - 4 is out of reach, and we will have to give more than just Dawes for Melbourne's pick 13. I hope the Dawes trade does go through, I think it would be good for him to have a fresh start.

if were losing dawes to melbourne, i want martin as part of the package, along with pick 13. If that means giving them a fringe player on top, or our 2nd rounder, so be it.

I think if were to lose Dawes and Wellers in this window and get only draft picks in return, id say that weve made it a lot more difficult to win a premiership next season
