Keeping Reilly isn't so bad but if we sign and keep a few of his other out of firm comrades to long term contracts would be negligent to how we improve next year.
If and with his 2 year contract, it looks like Brent Reilly is staying, thus will mean that Jason Porplzia and hopefully via a trade Vince will be moved on.

I think everything is quite obvious in hindsight...
On the questioning Callinans selection for last years prelim, in rounds 20, 21, 22, 23, QF Callinan kicked 2, 4, 4, 4, 1 goals. In rounds 17, 18, 19 Callinan kicked 0, 1, 0 goals. So should Sando get grilled for selecting Callinan in rounds 20 - QF because he was out of form and only managed 1 goal in the prior 3 weeks? Because without Callinans contribution we may not have beaten Fremantle, then the ladder and subsequent finals draw would have been different. Sanderson had faith in Callinan, and in the last 2 weeks of the year it didnt pay off.
Petrenko on the other hand, yes a mistake. He gets over 10 touches in games vs bottom 6 teams, and less than 10 touches vs quality teams. Petrenko does the odd flashy bit of work, but that isnt enough. Small defender only, and shouldnt have played.
Callinan finishes, simple as that. You take the good with the bad and make a judgement call. In my view he was instrumental in many of our wins last year (He kicked as many as million $ man Tippett!). That goal he did kick against the Swans, he would've been the only Crow who would've even thought about turning inside on his left foot there, let alone actually kick it.
What else did he do? He is the past. Should not play again. And we have a winner.
As a loose man he is fine, when he is accountable he struggles. Trade bait for mine.On the back of Reilly just having had his best season for the club.

Here is a guy, who played on minimum chips last year and was our equal leading goal kicker to moneybags $Kurt. Here is a guy, who is a specialist crumbling forward, who is paid (very minimally) to crumb packs, draw the odd Milne-esque cheap free, and finish in front of goals on either side of his body (which he does).
Nobody else in the team possess this quality. Not Porplyzia, not Johncock, not Petrenko, not Wright. Three of those four guys are so far away from being crumbling forwards its embarrassing.
So let's review again what we have here with Ian Callinan. We have a guy - on absolutel minimum wage - who possesses qualities that nobody else on our list has. On minimum wage.
He has also played two games this year. Two games.
Yep- cutting Ian Callinan is the ruthless, ballsy decision we are all after.....
Nah it's obvious but may still not be made, that's the problem.
We need to find one. Grigg perhaps. So who's the new crumbing forward? Enlighten me.
No one. Pets has a shoulder and isn't a forward. This year without an alternative it has to be Callinan but we have to get a new one for next year.So who's the new crumbing forward? Enlighten me.
Has never played that role.We need to find one. Grigg perhaps.
Necessity is the mother of invention.Has never played that role.

If there was going to be a player I'd experiment with up forward would be Laird and Grigg down back to deliver with his left bootNecessity is the mother of invention.
He's contractedTrade bait? He could walk as a free agent!

He's under contract, so as amazing as it would be for him to walk as an FA it can't happen for 2 more seasons.
I know he's contracted. Contracts are supposedly a two way street, so we can't then go and say we want to trade you. If we do want to trade him, then in my view that contract is now broken, which means he can go as an unrestricted free agent.
It may be your view but its not right, he is under contract so he can't be a free agent

My point is no club is going to do a swap for him for another player, when if they really wanted him they can get him for nothing most likely.
You used to be able to trade contracted older players, but now with free agency that is a whole different dynamic.
Do players have to agree to trades?
If not we can trade Reilly as we like. He's under contract, so we "own" him and the rights to him.
