It just seems to me that our best footy is pretty good but our worst football is unbelievably bad. It seems that when our game plan is worked out or we drop our intensity in a match our football is just pathetic. To be honest 5 of the worst games I have ever seen in my life have been in the last 3 years. Don't get me wrong I have also seen some of our better wins in the last 3 years. But when it goes wrong it really goes wrong.

I compare this to other clubs like collingwood(don't include last night) and essendon. When they loose its not even about being competitive they just don't look as pathetic as we do when our game plan/skills just completley dissapear. Other teams seem to be able to retain a structure and even when we beat richmond they still had a structure and were fairly competitve. Often when we loose we can't hit a single target, we kick it wide to 4 on 1's and we give so many hospital handballs, not to mention going backwards to 1 on 1's. I just feel that often when we loose we are the most unattractive team in the AFL by far. Our best is pretty good but our worst in boring/pathetic/unacceptable.

100% correct the difference between our best and worst is the biggest in the league, and has been 4 years.............not good enough this problem should have been adressed by now:thumbsd:

A fair summizaation of the status quo, HawkFan15.

Mind you, it is baggage our club carries. Even in our power years of the 60s, 70s and 80s our champion teams dropped clangers now and again. Lowly clubs of the likes Footscray and Fitzroy were the nemises of our top sides.

But in the modern era I wish we could be more like the Bombers and the Pies being able to maintain a more stable line of reasonable quality performances rather than our from very good to sudden very bad dips.

Yeh Gary thats exactly what I'm getting at, I'm not comparing us to sides like carlton who at their best smash port adelaide and at their worse get belted by brisbane, or melbourne who can beat collingwood/stkilda but at their worst get done by port and richmond. I'm talking all about our style and the dissapointment and frustration of watching the game, the gap between our best and worst I think is the greatest in the league. I just bring this up because when you look at Essendon for example(a team I think we are better than this year), when they loose (I'm not talking about the margin) it is no where near as frustrating and annoying as it is for Hawthorn because they still play football where as when we play we have a bunch of guys who start doing u turns into u turns and still have no where to kick and when we do we still miss the target by a mile or kick it to roughy 4 on 1.

In part, is this because our coaching team do not have the ability to develop a different game plan when the one planned falls over under match conditiions?

Umm... didn't the pies get thumped on their home turf? Didn't the bummers get thumped last year and finish 2nd bottom.

We've generally been competitive in our losses, and now we lose a few by larger margins (Adelaide and North) and suddenly we're back at square one? Clarko, and co did a cleanout. We've rebuilt the list, and believe it or not, we're still in a building phase. Hence, when we have key players out, we haven't built the depth to cover for them.

Please. For all those experts identifying a problem game plan, explain exactly what aspects are lacking, instead of meaningless fluff.
