Ok im going to write an overly optimistic view.

Last year are players succumbed to injuries and general fatigue that follows great travel and youngsters.

This year our team is one that would greatly benefit from byes, and i think we get them at lovely times.

We are having our injuries now and although no one wants injuries if you have to have them get them early, give others a chance to step up and create real depth in your squad through game time.

To get a chance of playing in GF you obviously need talent, i think our list is top 4 quality without question.

What you also need is luck with injury, something we havent had.

If the stars align and we get our squad healthy by roughly round 14-16 it will allow us to get a solid 3 months of game play into players like Barlow, Mzungu, Hayden, Suban etc and just right for a good old fashioned crack at the GF.

Call me crazy but we simply havent had this sort of luck, i think we are due.

Sport's all about grabbing opportunities and making the most of your window. It was a real kick in the guts that we under achieved in 2005 then had no luck in Spetember in 2006 because IMO the premiers in those years weren't nearly as good as the Bombers in 2000-2001, the Lions of 2001-2004, the Cats of 2007-2010 or the current Collingwood side.

The same applies at present, at no stage in recent memory has there been a bigger gap between the best side and then a chasing pack of 4 or 5 teams. We're currently in that group, and with a bit of luck playing deep into September is a real possibility this year.

I know Collingwood are miles ahead, however throw a year ending injury and couple of minor injuries to really test there depth.

Easy to say a side has depth when they dont have injuries.

They are coached well but things can change in blink of an eye.

I;m not sure the gap is that great.
If you were to look at their players from 23-30 for instance you start to think they're very vulnerable.

They've lost Nathan Brown and that's about it.

Let's see if they lost: Pendlebury (Barlow), Toovey (Suban), O'Brien (Hayden) a bit of a stretch but you get the idea, Sidebottom (Morabito) etc.

The Bombers etc have pushed them at times....

I seriously don't think we've played anywhere near as well as we did last year yet...I'm hopeful with returning players etc we'll gain a fair bit on them...on any day they're fallible

We haven't, although I'm not sure Collingwood have either.

We'll get a real idea of if and how far Collingwood are ahead of the comp in two weeks when they play Geelong. Even the Dogs are a fair chance to knock them off this week.

If the stars do align, round 23 at Patersons Stadium will be the hottest ticket in town when 1 and 2 on the ladder play off on a Friday night in a preview of the grand final. :):thumbsu:

That's another thread entirely. This one is about universal tumblers falling into place and allowing us a momentary opportunity to dream.

I'm not really that keen on the star alignment analogy, as that kind of thing is often portrayed as resulting in planetary destruction and global chaos, but I get the general drift.

The dogs are paying $5.50 to beat Collingwood this week, get on!

It would take the stars to align for that to happen IMO.

Mzungu would be the only one of them to be playing league by round 14 IMO. The others would more realistically be ready round 18 - 20 with Barlow and Hayden an outside chance of not being ready at all if they hit hurdles once returning to WAFL.

We're due for some luck but it currently seems we're picking up a major injury every month, so there's a good chance that we'll have lost others by the time round 14 comes around.

How many are we allowed?

Our luck is that our injuries have been in the midfield and flankers where we have a lot of depth, and also that Pitt and Lower have slotted into the team so well. The thing that scares me is if we loose a tall defender, then we will be exposed. Elvis and Grover have done an amazing job and are probably one of the main reasons we are 4-1, God I would hate to think what would happen if we lost one of them.

I don't bet, but with that philosophy most punters already lost their house betting against the Suns last week.

Never bet on a game where you are flipping between 2 really bad sides.

GCFC at over 10-1 last week were real value, id never have tipped or even bet on them but then id never have my house riding on Port Adelaide to beat anyone.

$1.20 is better then bank interest and the type of bet that lets the rich get richer by whacking down $100,000 type bets.

Dogs wont get within 40 points of the pies.

soooooo true wild side. we have an uncanny knack of running melbourne sides into form in melb.

The tigers have embarrassed us the last 2 times in melb. lets win this game.

as the great kenny dalglish has said you focus only on each game and give it your best shot at winning then at end of season you count up the number of points you have.

Agree :thumbsu:

Our KPP depth has always been shallow but at full strength as good as anyones.

Our absolute key players to play full season are: Sandi, Pav, Mundy, McPharlin, Grover, Fyfe, Mayne.

Mayne might seem a stretch but i think he sets the standard for forward pressure and was big reason for our drop off last year.
