When will the penny drop for Cockatoo?

Personally I'm not sure it ever will. I really like his intent, and athletically had some gifts many others would kill for. But just generally seems to lack game awareness, gets lost a lot, makes poor decisions a lot of the time. The kid, and yes I acknowledge that he is still a kid, missed the majority of his last two junior years with injuries and continues to miss now. 3rd year in the system id like to see a bit more than what we have the last couple of weeks.

Fitness levels can have a lot to answer for. Hopefully once he has built a larger tank he won't get lost as much.

Cocky reminds me of my Blue Dog Rufus when he was a pup,I was convinced he was a sandwich sort of a picnic but I persevered, it took 4 years for him to settle down and go from that excitable pup to the best and most reliable dog I ever owned.

I love his aggression and how he takes the game on... Just needs time to build his fitness base and develop a bit more as a player. Signs are there he can be good - hopefully he can stay injury free and spend more time in the midfield.

One moment of his against St Kilda really stood out for me - in the lead up to Murdochs first quarter goal our possession chain started off a Cocky tackle where he not only brought the man down, but while tackling managed to tap the ball to another players advantage and we got it out. Even currently while he's not near his potential he still does impactful things that can completely swing the momentum of play.

I like this analogy. It gives me hope that he'll settle down and become consistent and reliable. Currently cocky does a few fantastic things within the mix of unrefined movements and ball usage.

I really do like what I see from the kid from the perspective of potential. I feel as though having people like Danger and Selwood around him will ensure that he has the best opportunity to develop.

The way I see Cocky as a player is more in the mold of mercurial rather than consistent, and we all know those players are required. He does some great things, takes the game and other players on and once he is fully fit and has some decent experience (he is only 20) he'll be a gun.

Very similar statistically to Stevie at the same age.

Did you give up on Bartel who was playing in the seconds at the same point in careers?

Cockatoos game awareness and decision making is excellent by the way. The worry with him is fitness and whether he can build up the stamina to play as a mid. Averaging more touches and more goals per game this year than Cyril by the way.

I agree entirely and have been thinking the same thing the last couple of his games. I used to get excited and would almost have tears in my eyes with some of the things he did now I just look at him at think 'this guys shit and your frustrating me"....I hope I'm proved wrong but I've moved onto Parfitt as that guy has it.

The thing with Cockatoo is while he does the odd miraculous thing and the odd big ferocious tackle he just seems to fumble a lot....makes bad decisions as in he doesn't know what he is doing....and against St Kilda I didn't see him for about 3 quarters.

The thing I notice about him is that he is probably shy and it looks like he is looking for acceptance from everyone. Something happens on the field and he has this big goofy grin on his face that just doesn't look right. You watch the goal that Aaron Black kicked from the goal square against St Kilda and there is Cockatoo in the corner of the screen smiling away all weirdly embarrassed. Actually just watched the footage and its because he dropped another mark because he goes at the ball with open hands and misjudges them alot....another problem he seems to have.

I don't know its hard to explain but I hope he gets it together as they obviously rate him and he has a good knack for finding the goals. I think he is almost there in the way that he gets the ball and has a bounce but will then lose it somehow...maybe he gets a few bounces away one day and then look out as his career changes forever.

In conclusion stop smiling all weirdly Nakia and get the hard arsed serious T-1000 look on your face and who knows what you could become.

To be fair I'm having a better year than Cyril at the moment.

By 3rd year Bartel had show a bit more I feel, but I pretty biased towards him as a joeys alumni.

Bartel was dropped in round 2 and didn't get back into the team to round 10. Bartel also didn't have an injury ruined season in his second year like cockatoo did last year. Cockys only issue is fitness. It took Ablett junior until his 6th season till he rectified his fitness issue. Cockatoo has heaps of time.

Jury still out but love his physicality. Only thing i would say is that he may take time to learn how to channel this aggression the right way and in the meantime we will possibly see a suspension or two for him.

This is up there with the worst posts I've seen on here, and here's why:

- he's in just his third year of his career
- he's only 20 years old
- he's only played 24 games
- he plays predominantly in what I regard as the toughest position on the field, HFF
- his output has been on par with the best of his draft year
- he's in the top 20 for games played from his draft despite injury setbacks
- he'd already rank in the elite bracket for tackles and pressure acts, arguably the most important aspects of his role
- he produces at least one freakish at every game
- anyone's that's watched a game this year can clearly see how important he is to our team
- he's as strong in the contest as anyone
- it's not every player's role to average 20-30 possessions

Seriously, I've read some real s**t on this board, but this thread might take the cake.
It is just an opinion mate, and not a totally out-there one at all.

Different type than CR but its a good comparison. They say CR has the most impact for the least amount of possessions. Well its sort of the same with Cockatoo.. but he add real beef to the pressure. We made a huge error (imo) not playing him in the finals last year. The VFL final showed what he is capable of in 5 -10 minutes.

It's completely out there. Maybe in two years time this thread could have some validity.
Not really. It is just a supporter who isnt totally sure that one of our young kids will make it. We all have doubts on players.

Either way, I think the response I was quoting was way OTT and most likely the type of deriding response to a simple opinion that is getting up the nose of a fair few posters on here.

Other than his last line (I've seen far worse posted on here), I thought it was all pretty reasonable.

The first and the last lines werent great and probably made the original poster feel like crap - the rest of it was really well explained. :D But hey, i dont want to be accused of pretending to be a mod so will leave it with them.
