Prediction Where do with finish in 2025?

As we gear up for the 2025 season, it’s time to put your predictions out there! Where do you think we'll end up on the ladder? Are we aiming for a finals spot, or do you foresee some challenges ahead?

9th - 12 wins, 11 losses with a percentage of over 100%

11th seems to be where we like to finish so why not another year?

11 wins - 12 losses and a percentage of 97.

Realistically, who do we finish above in the top 10?

Then there are sides that finished below us that could leapfrog us. Gold Coast, Melbourne and Adelaide.

I think we'll be in contention among a number of clubs for a top 8 spot, but ultimately I don't think we have the ability to sustain it for a whole year.

Our range is probably 7-13.

It's (almost) all or nothing, I reckon - finish mid top 8, or 16th, nothing in between. Feel like we could be a real threat to all teams if we get a run on, but, I have no faith in our ability to fight our way out of trouble, so could completely capitulate early in the season and not recover.
I'm going to be positive - we finish 5th, at the end of H&A.

I think 9th-13th again. It's a tough fixture but we can win our fair share. I expect the bottom 3 to stay the same, Melbourne and St Kilda will struggle, then a big group between 5th and 13th of whuch I expect us to be at the lower end.

Anywhere from 6-14th would be my guess. Regardless of ladder position, I think we will win games we’re not expected to and be competitive. Comp is so even, the only teams I’m completely ruling out of the 8 are Richmond, St Kilda and WC

I agree with the locks for missing the 8.

A lot of people seem to think North are still going to be easy beats but they showed in patches last year they can play great football. Another preseason under the belt of the kids plus some experience in Daniel, Parker and Darling will lift them. I don’t think they will make the 8 but I can’t completely rule them out.

We have no depth with our small forwards, and I still think we are very dependant on the run Duursma provides on the wing. It was a cat amongst the pigeons when he went down last year.
If Kako, Gresham stay healthy and fit - and we stay healthy in our wings I think we can surprise a few.

Looking at us being able to run out a full season this year for the first year in a long time.

On the strength of what we've seen in the praccies, I'd be inclined to say between 10th and 12th. Heppell, Kelly and Laverde out of the backline with better marks and kicks. Shiel back looks like it will work. Martin forward for the goals and entries. Draper is more dynamic and more likely than Wright atm. Kako looks like he could have a strong debut year. I don't think we'll be anywhere near as bad as bottom four, as I did at the end of last year.

I do fear the handball happy game might frustrate with over using the ball. We'll see.

Agree. Maybe lacking in out and out superstar power in the engine room and backline but plenty of quality depth. But the moment we start relying on Menzie to kick lots of goals for us we might as well start tanking.

Agree. Maybe lacking in out and out superstar power in the engine room and backline but plenty of quality depth. But the moment we start relying on Menzie to kick lots of goals for us we might as well start tanking.

Given we have Wright, Viggo, Edwards, Guelfi SEH, and Davey all in the VFL forward line I’d say there’s quite a few injuries that would need to happen before Menzies was being relied upon as a top option forward at AFL level.

The fact we are playing more high octane when we have the ball suggests we are fitter. More cohesion in team defence and a more stable/balanced back 7 will improve us. Elevated output from Draper, Perkins, Gresham and Duursma plus the excitement of Caddy and Kako has me optimistic.

Will be some good days when the youngsters look a million dollars.

You know how we could never put anyone to the sword? I reckon we can expect at least a couple of + ten goal wins this year.

However, it’s a long season and history says when your best forwards are first and second year, they will get tired, they will get worked out, there will be lulls.

Unfortunately I reckon the only remedy for not going backwards in the second half of the year would be to start slowly.

Its a wonder isn't it. I think tons of pundits are just tuned to dismiss Essendon ever being a top 8 team.

We have a hard draw, and a very young list. Yet our team seems stronger now than it's even been.
Wouldn't be surprised now if we finish up 7-8th.

Bottom 4 I would think would be a low chance, but it wouldn't be a complete shock. I have us 9th-13th.

With being at least as good as last year, we have lost three genuine best 22 players. As well as Hind (15 games). I agree with all three/four moves, but they should technically make us a worse team.
