Where is Shane Yarran?

Pretty sure he is still injured. Someone mentioned he was 3-4 weeks away from playing for Peel.

Does not appear on injury list, didn't play NAB series & has not played last to Peel games.
Ross is currently halfway through brainwashing the attacking instinct out of him so he can become an effective defensive forward.

I joke, I joke. Relax.

Or do I?

This is a reasonable question. My understanding from reading training reports and listening to Chris Bond on 6PR about a month ago is that he has been training but his main issue appears to be fitness/ match conditioning.

I wonder though if he was still with Subiaco whether he would be playing WAFL. Hopefully we will see him with Peel very soon.

Bond indicated that his fitness for AFL is below par and quite a way off their minimum standard. This was to be expected given his time in Jail so games in the AFL would be a bonus for 2016.

Hasn't Shane played the last two yrs for Subiaco? a star in the finals in 2015 surely he was fit enough for commencement of pre season?

Shane Yarran our forward line saviour?

Not going to happen...sorry.

Yarran was a no. 61 draft pick, a hail Mary pick, a pick which often isn't utilised at all.

He has no AFL background. Two years at WAFL level doesn't cut it with RTB. He insists on an AFL tank before even considering bringing in a new player (generally).

To make matters worse, Yarran has been injured since the WAFL GF and missed the entire pre-season. He's some weeks away from appearing for Peel, let alone playing for Freo.

Anthony Morabito in 2014 completed the pre-season and still had to play 11 games for Peel before receiving a call up to the senior team.

Yarran was drafted as a total long shot. Perhaps our recruiters were trying to weaken Subiaco and strengthen Peel.

So we give a full list spot to a 26 year old in the hope he plays in 2017. IMO I thought he could be the difference we need for goals this year, something does not make sence to me.

I'm just quoting what I heard. Never was a line ruled through Yarren for 2016. It was more that this year he would be developed so that he is AFL match conditioned. I expect he will get chances in the second half of the year based on form with Peel.

I do wonder based on training reports why he couldn't be playing with Peel as he seems to have recovered from his ankle and knee injuries. Trust the fitness staff I guess.

I'm not doubting what you herd just does not add up to me, seems strange seeing he 26 he is not plug in and play.

He was injured all of preseason, I've got no issue with him doing a mini-preseason now and being primed round 5-6.

Exactly. He started full training mid Jan so he's about 4 or 5 weeks behind the others. The preseason games started about 4 weeks ago so he should be good to go this week or next.

At training on Monday gone he would have pumped out 10+ laps before I was bored and left - didn't touch a ball

Friday gone had a full session with the main squad then ran laps.

Cheers Salim, that suggests insufficient fitness to me more than anything.

If so, he'll should be up to scratch in about one to three months at the latest (...based purely on self observation from the last time I tried to get fit.)

It seems we got two players wrong in relation to the extent of their injuries Balic and Yarren.

That is really disappointing, but I guess we really didn't have the low picks to do anything but try the high risk high reward model.

I still hold out hope for both but I don't think we will be drafting anybody who is not fully fit (or only minor niggle) in next years draft.

Again not on the injury list. From the training reports it sounds like he is doing most of the training session now. I'm hoping he at least plays some footy this weekend whether it be the reserves or not.

I have a nasty feeling Subes and Mayne are going to get picked again and I want Yarran to start pressing for Mayne's spot.

Peel have a bye so likely the following week.

I am quite happy with Yarran; leads well, has a good kick on him and is a good medium size. Does fumble a bit though and lacks composure at times. Also if Ballantyne and/or Mayne leave it would be nice if he could improve his crumbing otherwise Walters will have to do the majority of the small forward work.
