Headland play for Subi?

Yes.

Are you ****ing kidding me?

No.

Easily in our top dozen or so players. Missed most the season and slots back, plays well, attacks the ball hard, and fans still aren't happy?

Headland's in our top dozen players potentially. Maybe. Sometimes. All the talent in the world doesn't make up for his actual performances week in, week out though. He has NEVER been a consistent performer. Now that he's injured more often than not as well, bugger it, I'd rather go with someone like Walters, or even Solomon.

I used to defend Headland; he got unfairly criticised due to what the club paid to get him. Now he just irritates me. Unfulfilled potential, just like Fremantle. Watching him carry on like a complete douche against Port Adelaide in Round 19 last season highlighted the 'me first' attitude, which had plagued Fremantle for so long.

Coaching staff no doubt will back Headland in because he is a required player, unlike the morons on BF.

At his (rare) best, Headland is in our best 22, I'm not disputing that. When he performs at his best for 22 games you can come and talk to me about who the required players are though. An injury prone, inconsistent, half forward is easily replaced.

McPhee is also easily in our best side. While he may not be at his 2004 form, he attacks the ball hard, can take a grab and can beat an opponent. Another change of scenery should do him well.

I agree with that.

Which player in the AFL does that? Players in every sport go through form slumps and/or poor performances due to matchups/injuries/team play/lack of effort.

I do agree with you that Des lacks consistency but at his best he's not just in our best 22 he's in our best 10. I think he relished playing out of the goal square last year and we'll see a lot more of it in 2010.

Good players put in 100% week in, week out - that's what I was getting at with the 22 games comment. If you do that, more often than not you'll play to the best of your ability. Pavlich, Sandilands, Hayden etc all have games where they're aren't at there best, they are few and far between though.

Lack of effort isn't the best excuse for poor performances by the way. Effort is the first thing expected from players, and the basis with which everything else is judged.

Again, I've never doubted Headland's ability.

I'd rather see Headland delivering it inside 50 than being the focal point myself. That role late last year probably had as much to do with Headland's fitness as anything else. Personally, if we were going to pick an undersized bloke to play FF, Mayne would be my pick.

McPhee is definitely a very handy player. Fairly flexible. His best position is far and away up forward - he's quite hard to match up against and can be quite dangerous. Runs to the right spots and can take a good grab.

Unfortunately his decision making isn't so great; if he has time to think, he has time to fumble. That's why he can be a liability in the back half. Sure he's more than handy there; but it's not his best position.

Some games nothing goes right for him, and you cringe when he comes near it. Others he is a shining light when nothing else is going right for you.

He'll definitely be great for your list.

Made a name for himself (AllAus selection) off the HB line; something to consider.
