How can Sando get him back into form? I just don't see him playing back long term as he's too slow and his tackling isn't strong enough. We don't seem to be playing the third man up system we used to, which doesn't allow him to drift into packs and take marks like he used to. Maybe a spell up forward ? Let him kick a few goals to get his confidence back ? What other options are there ?

I had always thought that he was really a tall mid. Was this not the story when we drafted him?

Same story with Shaw actually. Heard the same thing. Also Danger is bloody tall for a mid.

Anyway, "where to" is to get some SANFL form and push back into the side. He can play just about anywhere, other than KPP roles. So put him there.

His role has been replaced by better players and he hasn't developed into the midfielder he was supposed to be. He's gone.

His form for South seems to be getting better. Having said that its very hard to see where he is going to fit. What would his trade value be?

At this stage he isn't in the preferred 25 in my reckoning and barring injury I don't see him forcing his way into the side. He was really poor against Hawthorn, not only slow and indecisive but if the ball was on the ground it was excrutiating to watch.

I would see him being trade value if we could keep Shaw and Thompson at years end. If the trade was to get Jordan Russell from Carlton in a straight swap, I would go insane. I would rather have Myke Cook playing 22 games a season playing lose in defense than Russell in our squad.

It is a bit sad because he had a great rookie season but that knee injury took more of a toll than any of us hoped or could imagine

Needs to be playing in the midfield, looked far more comfortable further up the ground earlier in the year, but looked unsure and lost whilst in defense. Ours is a tough midfield to crack at the moment, but I think he'd have plenty to offer given his talent.

Wouldn't want him in the midfield. We have much better players in there or that can come in. His too slow, fumbles and too old for the midfield.

It's midfield or bust for Otten, as I've been saying for a while.

He was drafted as a tall midfielder. He doesn't defend well enough to replace Shaw, and doesn't kick well enough to replace Reilly or Jaensch, let alone skip in front of the currently unlucky Henderson.

When he first started playing I remember everyone commenting on how much time he seemed to have when he had the ball. Never looked rushed. Has lost so much confidence in his body it's not funny. Provided he's not taking up to much space in the salary cap, I'm happy to keep on the list, if only as a depth player.

Wow. cant believe people are calling for him to be traded.

If he walked out on the club when he did his knee, the board would have gone into phil davi$ style meltdown. Show some loyalty.

Just because we havnt needed to rely on it so far this year, you dont just trade out your valuable depth players to get draft picks or spuds from other teams. he has shown he has genuine talent, unlike Thompson, just obviously down on confidence. Is playing really well for Souths and wouldnt be surprised if hes in the emergencys pushing for a spot in the next few months.

According to Sanderson, was apparently one our best during the pre-season (hence his selection in the first few rounds) before a medial ligament strain affected his confidence and movement. Deserves the chance to get his body right before we write him off.

yeah id be giving him a few games in the second half of the year to see if he can regain some of his confidence and form... he isnt on my trade table yet

In his second year he was excellent in defence and really showed that he could use the ball well in traffic and get out of tight situations. I think he is a tall midfielder and can be very handy in congested sitauations. Sure his form has been down this year but we are only half way through and there is plenty of time for him to get better.

If we have some injuries he will be a valuable back up to have. Maybe he can play forward in the first half of the grand finals and kicka couple of goals, a la Shane Ellen.:)

I never liked the idea of moving him to the midfield because I felt he played his best footy down back. That's probably not true anymore, but now we have additional quality in the middle.

I think we just need to play him (once injury or form allows it) and rotate him through a few spots to see if he really takes his opportunities anywhere.

Coopers - Shaw was never touted as a midfielder.

Why when a player is outside the best 22 does he automatically enter as "trade bait".

Yes he wasn't performing when he was playing for the Crows this year, but when you have zero players on the injury list, someone has to drop out.

I'm in no doubt if we had a regular injury list, he'd be in the team. Depth players are extremely important.
