Ok now that i think most of us have pretty much given hope on this season (i know i have) this leads us to a serious question

where do we think the team stands now?

do we think we'll be back up there next season? are we confident of this? or do we think alot of rebuilding is going to have to take place before we can have another crack at a flag?

only collingwood supporters please, id like to see what other collingwood supporters think (and franky right now couldnt give a stuff what other club supporters think)

Rebuilding for next year, got some games I am not confident we can win, Brisbane, Port, Freo (in WA) are going to be some hard ones. Plus we have Essendon, and Carlton, I think we can beat Western Bulldogs and Richmond. Not so sure about some of the others though.

i wouldnt be surprised if we lose the remaining 7 games

that would be ok IF players such as nixon, king, shackelton, mullins, rowe, walker, heath and brayden shaw are playing and getting good game time and we are finding out what they are made off

if we spiral deeper into despair this season with players such as kinnear williams mckee and lokan playing that would be a major disappointment, and we would need very much to change the list

as it is i think we need to get rid of the stragglers, and there are a few, and recruit hard and try to improve the list and dont have an inflated opinion of it

hopefully we pick up a few wins to end the season

Nixon and King are dead men walking. No point playing them in the seniors - we all know they are duds.

Rowe and Walker will get more games before season end. Brayden Shaw will also get a run. Heath won't play seniors this year.

Shackleton will also get a game, but frankly he isn't good enough and will end up on the scrapheap with Nixon and King unless he plays out of his skin when he finally gets a run.

Crow might also find himself promoted off the rookie list and getting a run. He's skinny but God knows he couldn't do any worse than McKee.

Where we are is we are not good enough at our best to win a GF and slightly off our best we are behind a number of teams. That means we need a better list and a more flexible lineup and game plan. We have to get something for players via trade so we cannot afford ton do what we have done in the past and wait until the players we that won't make it are found out. This is what Sheedy does with his discards. He trades them before their deficiencies are well known. I wonder if we are able to work these things out.

We need to get some pace into the lineup. We also need to works out who is going to be good enough. Swan, Mullins, Walker, Maxwell and Rowe have to get games so we can see if they are going to be good enough and we need to see whether weaknesses are exposed. We also need to make a call on Nixon, King, O'Bree, R. Shaw and perhaps one or two others. We must delist McKee, Kinnear and Williams. They add nothing. They are supposed to be depth players but they don’t add depth because they are not good enough at AFL level.

We have to get tough with the list and we have to work hard on trades. I wouldn’t mind if we could get something for someone like Swan. He might be good but we need a star or two and we need to get some good draft picks to increase our chances. If we keep the Shaws and Mullins I can’t see Swan fitting into the team. Davidson looked good in his half game. I would ask Geelong if they are sti8ll interested and see what the offer might be. We could always knock it back. We have a number of potential talls. One or two will have to be traded at some point.

Very disappointed with Swan.

Showed some promise early this year but has gone backwards in the second half of the season. Personally I think he has promise but I don't think he'll ever be a match winner. In fact he reminds me of Heath Scotland.

Are his skills as good as Scotland's? If not I;d trade him if we can get something for him. he looks to me to have enough to attract attention if we can use him well enough to show him off. I think at the end of teh day he'll be like a few on our list and develop into a servicable player prepared to play a role. We have enough of those. We need top end talent. Mullins looks to have more upside at this stage so I'd keep Mullins.

im a fan of dane swan, has a red hot go when he gets a crack on the ground, but when he does play seniors mick doesnt show enough faith in him

in these last 7 games swan should get 100% game time and show whether he is worth perservering with
playing 50-70% game time and struggling to pick up the tempo of games doesnt show a true reflection on his talent
he is definitely a good VFL player (he won the B&F last year) so they have given him some chance, but i want to see him get more game time to develop some more in the seniors

im not fussed with david king, but bo nixon should be perservered with also....give him some mor egames with meaningful game time and let him have a crack
i believe he is the type of player that needs 2-3 years of developing...and could turn out to be a good floating versatile player for the Pies

I'd say they are.

Its his ball getting and his decision making that worries me, also he's too easily brushed aside in a contest despite bulking up this year.

I Absolutely Love Swan, his Poise under Pressure with the Ball is awesome.

He should be playing in the 1's and Getting atleast 80% game time. But because he can't pick up teh tempo of the game and only playign for bits and pieces, he can't do much. Early in the Year he was getting High - Possesion games and playing very well. 23 Possesions against Carlton. He is a good player, Needs time on Ground.

I think They'll give him one more year and he'll play close to the full Games next year.

Collingwood are going to rebuild without Nathan Buckley and we will see about 2 years of no Finals Appearances (2004-05). We need to have a big hard look into rebuilding the list with alot of hard trading AND have a hard summer.

Maybe even look at introducing Gavin Brown when Nathan Buckley leaves, and see what happens.

As for...

Dane Swan, always thought of the kid as a Half-Forward and not a Half-Back which is where he tends to play in the side. Like the kid but the exposure to Game Time may have shortened his career. He can play, just wont be aloud to get on the ground. When he has been let on the ground, he has had 16-20 possession games.

Our list, although deficient in some areas is not that bad. Admittedly there are some that have to go (Agree with you MarkT!!) but with the exception of a few they are all fairly young and injuries can rape any team, just ask the Saints!

What I would really like to see is a shift away from the negative footy we play. Get some attacking midfielders who can get the ball to Taz and Rocca QUICKLY!!!! We played straight into Geelong's hands on Saturday because we chipped around and around and didnt give ours forwards a chance to win out one on one.

We definitely need more attacking and pacey midfielders. As for trading Woey, I can't see why we should trade one of our best players this year. There are alot in line before him!!!

lol i stuffed up that msg nicely, what i meant to say is do u's reckon we'll be back up there next season?

ive pretty much given up hope for this season. If we start playing good now id get more ****ed off than anything.

our coaching staff must stop passing the buck, they must make the hard decisions required to get us back to the tough, hard , competative team we know and love.the younger players like shak must be given a chance to see if they have the required skills to make it at elite level.otherwise what is the use of recruiting players to be around the club for 4 or 5 years ,only to delist them without playing them?

Yep,

no might be that only chance to get those young unrewarded youngsters for a crack at Senior level. Julian Rowe came from nowhere and has impressed me, whereas Shack has actually shown something at Williamstown.
