We all know the famous events. Events that stopped the world or had the whole world watching.

We all remember where we were during these key events and sometimes the story of what you were doing can be just as interesting as the actual event.

Tell us your stories.

At my Grandma's house, round 22 1997, waiting for the footy on 7, when news came through of Princess Di's car accident in Paris. Bit of a surreal time actually, and I remember there was a grim news flash during the footy with Peter Mitchell reporting on Princess Di's death.

Felt like time stood still, I remember my Aunty and female cousin, who were big Royal fans, absolutely breaking down in tears.

IIRC The game was Essendon v Freo at Optus Oval, Mark Harvey's last game, but it was honestly such a dark day...

I remember that also as my parents were in Paris at the time and only 100m from the crash.

I also remember a bulletin saying there was an accident then one about 10 mins later saying she had died.

We tried to ring my parent but didn't get onto them until the next morning. They had no idea what had happened and just thought Paris was crazy due to all the sirens.

Essendon v Adelaide. Mark Harvey and Chris Daniher's last game. I was actually at the game and I remember the news filtering through; in those days of no smart phones, it was a bit of a slower thing though.

More like percolating through the crowd than spreading like wildfire.

I remember Princess Di's news so well Was in a kitchen, and as I walked in was greeted by the owner with a devasted look who had just heard the news

I was on a bus with the cheersquad :$ coming back from seeing the mighty cats beat Sydney in a nail biter at the SCG. Well, we just hung on really, coughed up any percentage chance we had of making 1st and finished 2nd instead and we all know what happened after that.... but i digress.

So yeah on a bus, stopped at a Maccas, TV is on with the news on "Princess Di" and "CAR CRASH" are the words flashing up on the screen with no sound, I think yeah she's been in an accident but is ok. Still tho, back on the bus get my walkman on and find a news channel, where they are confirming the death.

I spread the news around of course on the bus and a whole lot of grannies start crying.
The end.

I was 10 and it was a Sunday morning. FTA programming was replaced with CNN I think on Channel 7. It was all over the radio too while mum drove me to a friend's house. Next Saturday night was the funeral live on every channel.

Reading about her as an adult many years later, Christopher Hitchens was right to call her a "vapid disco princess". And strangers crying over her death is pathetic. Still, she did damage the British monarchy and that is admirable.

It was about 2008 or 9 , I was in front of my computer, listening to music and reading a forum when I found that there was a third tower that fell on nine eleven.

It was a strange feeling. The news still only says two, still only shows those two falling. It was a life changing moment seeing the vids of it brought down with explosives. So many people my brain once ticked off as crazy, had to be reevaluated. So many people I once trusted, could no longer be.

So you see how that event changed everything forever? Who could ever believe anything from the BBC again after they said it collapsed 40 minutes before it actually did. Who could ever believe any excuse from our leaders to go war ever again? One of the most important events in the history of the world.

The moon really can not stay behind the clouds forever. A modern analogy of the same wisdom, skyscrapers cant hide in the fog of war for ever.

Saw the 2nd plane hit the twin towers live on TV. I think I was playing computer games and quickly tried to contact my friend in the states to make sure she wasn't anywhere near the towers at that time.

That's a pretty unfair post (and Hitchens was a pretty nasty man).

Di did a lot of good things in her life, raising money to help feed starving and sick African children and was a passionate fighter to try get rid of those reprehensible landmines in Angola.

She had a pretty harsh personal life, getting married to man who clearly was in love with someone else and the less said about her meddling mother in law and the Paparazzi the better.

The manner of her and Dodi's death was also disgraceful, being chased and hounded down a French tunnel.
Di was a lady of compassion and was also a beautiful woman adored by millions, the outpouring of grief on her passing was well justified.

I remember that they (Channel 7 - Kylie Gilies during Sportworld) announced she was in a car accident in the morning but was "in hospital and doing well" later on obviously news changed the story and now she died. I understand they couldn't announce the death because of protocol (family having to be notified first) but to go from one extreme to the other in a short space of time was bewildering.

Why must you turn every single thread into your bullshit?
