With H and Ottens playing damn fine football as the key position players where do you guys envisage Nathan Ablett will play? I mean seriously, as it is the forward line is somethig like this:

HF: S.Johnson Playfair Chapman
FF: Ablett Ottens Kingsley

You seriously could not fit him in.

Hopefully he can develop as well as a young man with the last name of Hawkins I am hearing about. Then after we win the the next two flags, some players leave/retire and we just slot in the 100 goal a game forward in Nath and a young draft pick in HAwkins and we win another 6.

As much as I went weak at the knees watching him take a pack mark against Richmond 2nds in Round 1, one step at a time. First, he's got to put some seconds form together, which hasn't happened as they're getting thrashed every week. If he plays 1 game this year I'll be surprised. Be great if he does, but I would argue Lonergan, Egan and others are all ahead of him. All in good time.

Besides, let's beat Fremantle on Saturday first, nothing else matters.

HE will play in the 2s for the season will not debut till round 2 at home next year when we unfurll the premiership flag.

Tom Lonergan , drafted Pick23 2002, played for Vic Country, debut 22May05
Two and a bit years of VFL as a foundation
Why would you expect a kid who has had far less preparation, before drafting to do it in less time. No matter the talent, lets give him time to get the package right, the wait will be worth it-
Where will he play , hard to say but Id say the way the game in evolving you need 3 mobile talls as marking targets, he'd be one

He shouldn't play for 2-3 years. We don't need him yet and there are young fowards that can't get a game that are btter then him

I wouldnt want to promote someone like N.Ablett. he cries whenever he sees a video camera and is as soft as a feather. It cant be denied. He may have wonderful skills but he is going to have the cats labelled as 'the softest team' if he gets a game.

Good point, a long wait in the 2nds first. Assuming he does get there eventually, from what I've seen he'll either be a Full Forward or Centre Half Forward. Too big, agile and skilful to be anywhere else.

I think it's obvious that he won't play this year and going by reports, he'll be lucky to play next year. I would be inclined to give him a couple of games next year if his form warrants it, and start him in the back pocket just for fun :D After that you can put him on the bench for a bit anf then bring him out after half time and throw him into the forward line on a flank to see what he can do. If I was on the selection committe I would make him an emergency every 2nd or 3rd week to take away a bit of the media hype, when they get sick of it and stop reporting on it you can play him :D
