A bit of a twist on the "Best Player in the League" debate.

Whilst Voss, Hird and Buckley may vie for that honour, they are all getting on a bit, so right now on a balance of...

Ability
Age
Potential
Soundness of Body

... who would bring the greatest return for their club in a trade, and what would that return be?

As a Swans supporter I would suggest Adam Goodes.

He's an elite player who's only getting better, can play every position on the ground, has hardly missed a game in 5 years, and he's only 23.

If the Swans were to trade him (which won't be happening anytime soon) what would he be worth?

LOL, but you may be right - Collingwood would have to give up a lot for another club to take him.

Here's the headline of a thread I started about a fortnight ago on this very subject.

The premise of the dollar values beside the players names is using a million dollars as a yardstick transfer fee upon which to compare all players.

1. $1,000,000 - Nick Reiwoldt
=2. $ 950,000 - Matthew Pavlich
=2. $ 950,000 - Jonathon Brown
3. $ 900,000 - Michael Voss
4. $ 875,000 - Warren Tredrea
5. $ 850,000 - Chris Tarrant
6. $ 825,000 - Andrew Macleod
7. $ 800,000 - Matthew Lloyd
8. $ 775,000 - Ben Cousins
9. $ 750,000 - Shane Crawford
10. $ 725,000 - Nathan Buckley

I make no apology for not including any players drafted in the lasy two years. The highest value of these would probably be Judd or Hodge, and possibly Kerr or Polak.

PS. I 've altered it slight since the original post, as I moronically omitted to mention Jonathon Brown in the list.

How about Goodesy then ;)

At 28 I reckon you've got Voss to high, despite him being the best player in the competition IMO.

Fair call on both counts, midaro.

Two weeks ago Goodes hadn't played a blinder v. Port.

And Vossy hadn't buggered his knee.

Reiwoldt,Pavlich,Jonathon Brown,Chris Tarrant,Adam Goodes for Kpp

Mitchell,Ablett,Ball,Judd,Coughlan,Hayes,Simon Black some Midfielders.

Would all be worth a **** load, Smokey: Scarlett very young Best FB in the comp.

That is quite peculiar, isn't it Falc. That we bend over backwards for a player who kicks 6 goals every week, but neglect a player who saves at least that many each match.

Somehow I reckon that those in positions of real power respect the worth of footballers such as Matthew Scarlett.

Riewoldt doesn't register on the trade value computer, it just delivers a blinking message saying "Impossible Calculation".

Pavlich delivers the best 'understandable' message. "All your first round draft picks for the next ten years."
