Which players to cut in 08

Rusling? Do you want to kick points, Juice can fill a role Rusling can, we need more of a Travis Cloke type, Chris Dawes is the kind of player we need to be around for our second pick this year. Actually him and a big backmen as well.

Dude, Juice will be better than Rusling and is a lot bigger as well.
If Juice continues to grow he'll be our power forward.

Totally agree. I would prefer to have Newton comparing to Rusling.

If Collingwood willing to give up 2nd round draft pick for Carroll, then I will take it.

Sorry but i don't understand your obsession in getting picks above 30 in a weak draft. We don't need to get 7 kids into our team. Carroll is a very good player and we should keep him, unless we were to get Chaplin or Graham or someone to replace him. I don't think Hawthorn rebuilt with picks like that. Most of their good young players came from picks 1-20.

If Carroll went that would leave a huge hole in our backline, along with the other holes...

I hate to say this but I reckon Rusling is better than Juice.... :o

You should hate saying it, juice will now eat your first born!

I haven't seen enough of Rusling, he looks impressive on the lead but can he take a contested mark?

Don't want to stir up trouble but I was reading through this thread and noticed that not one person mentioned Godfrey. Do supporters rate him or does the coaching staff and that is why no one mentioned his name.

Just from an outsider looking at your list Godfrey would be the first name I came up with to delist. He turns the ball over with so much regularity it is like he is trying to do it. He plays with passion and puts his head over the ball but you need more than that to play AFL, you need some level of skill. I was really surprised that his name didn't come up, I have a mate who is a Dee's supporter and he can't stand him every time I see him I ask how Godfrey's going and he spends the next 20min telling me how bad he is. I thought there would be more Dee's supporters that felt this way?

You're entitled to your opinion CBH and I won't try and change your mind, but when you look at Juice he has more height, is far more versatile, a better kick at goal and takes a better contested mark.

Rusling seems fairly one-dimensional to me, I think he'll be very good at his job (Leading forward) but he isn't particularly tall and although he has extreme pace he will need very good delivery out of the centre and will have teams flood back on him and shut him out of the game, if they flood with Juice down there he'll just jump on their heads and take the mark ;).

He is a love him or hate him player. Personally i love him, shows plenty of heart and courage. His skills do let him down although personally i believe they impoved a lot this year. He was actually able to hit stationary targets and some players on the lead, as previous he got not kick the ball and get it near any1 wearing a melbourne jumper. Proof of this was the quensbirthday weekend. On the Members wing/hff about 70 meters out he roved a pack picked the ball up one handed. ran towards goal baulked a pies player then bounced with his right hand and kicked for goal on his RIGHT foot. high light of the year for mine.

Godfrey's performances in 2007 have probably extended his career by one more season. Not sure where he stands contractually, but he is our only genuine tagger, so he is handy to have on the list. Played some good games this season, and always has a crack. Ideally, we shouldn't have to use him, but it's not an ideal world.

Players that should be cut:
- Warnock (will be 24 when next season starts, hasn't shown much at all and at best is a good VFL player)
- Ward (time's up, as someone mentioned, his role will now be played by Petterd/Bell, far too unaccountable as well)
- Neville
- Jamar (has nothing around the ground, holding back the development of Neaves, who should be promoted. Little trade value)

Players that could be cut but probably won't be:
- Ferguson (kept for depth purposes, trade possibility though)
- Miller (similar to Ferg, will probably be given one last season to prove himself, also trade possibility)
- Holland (showed enough this year to earn one final season on the list, even if he only manages 9 or 10 games)

With those last 3 players, I'm going by the MFC's attitude of keeping players on, I certainly have no problems if they were delisted, I just doubt that we'd do so. I urge Dean Bailey to prove me wrong.

And another thing - White & McDonald (and Robbo I think) are eligible for the veterans list next season, which they'd also take into consideration when finalising delistings.

Well what does he bring to the table Einstein? Let's take a look:

A long kick. That's pretty much it. He might be able to break a tackle or two but, more often than not, he get's caught. He is horribly slow and his turning circle is worse than Ben Holland's. He has no defensive skills and he is horribly injury prone (through no fault of his own).

I wouldn't have him in our best 25 anymore.
Gee to me that sounds like your talking about another player that we have the number 5. I would be happy if we traded him, he's the man who is consistently getting caught and he cant kick over a jam tin unlike buckley who can. If we piss him off we might get something in return then l would be as happy as a pig in shit.

Reading this is really confusing, I hope your being sarcastic but you have put a fair bit of work in there.

For whats its worth I see where your coming from on Moloney CFH. He has looked slow and your right about the turning circle but all you need to do is look at Chris Judd and see the effect of OP, cutting him now is just not a worthwhile option. I also think he does have a solid defensive side and if we get him fit again, I can't see why he wouldn't be able to have a season like he did in 2005. I don't know what the surgical options are but I would consider giving him the first 6 weeks of the season off, allowing him to have a huge and extensive preseason and then let him get in super form with Sandy. Having no expectations of him for this year might help more than saying I wish I had the Moloney of 05 back.

what do we all think about danial hughes, worth keeping? do the dees have to promote him to the senior list now that his two years are up on the rookie list?

ARE YOU SERIOUS

TRADE BAIT

MILLER, FERGUSON AND HOLLAND.

What are we going to trade them with Preston Football Club.

Settle down son. I never said Holland would be up for trade, that's just ridiculous.

As for the other two, they're 24 and 26 respectively, still possibilities (not concrete though) at being traded, throw in a 3rd round pick for example and you'd have something - that's generally what you see in trade week. Have a think pal

Is this guy suggesting in a unique rambling way what I think he might be????

If he is he should go catch a tram, preferably by standing in front of it with a butterfly net.
Come on now master thats not very nice, everyone is aloud there own opinion on who they think can play and who cant. It might just be frustration on my part but his got a long way to go for me to have any cofidence in him when he gets tha ball. For our sake l hope he makes me like a fool in 08 and if he does well then l will be happy to eat my wprds and apolagize.

Who are you talking about? McLean or Moloney?

Holland won't get traded IMO while Ferguson and Miller will be tossed about. Clubs like the Doggies, Carlton and even Richmond would have at least a passing interest.

Wouldn't mind sending Jamar to the Crows for John Meesen either.
