There is always so much discussion about all the players we have lost over the journey. Sure Docherty, Yeo and Polec would add to our side but who are the player who have left that you don't miss at all?

For me Billy Longer, James Aish and Jack Redden are three players I am happy to see wearing different colours.

Redden for sure. He was an established and important player for us who consistently racked up 25 touches and a ton of tackles. Ever since he left his career has done a backflip and he's been stinking it up ever since. Glad he's not performing like that on our list

Redden was stinking it up for a few years before he left as well.

Sam Sheldon - never rated the guy.

Patrick Karnesis - just seems like a really ordinary bloke all round.

James Aish - disappointed he left at the time. He didn't even give us a chance. Now looks like we dodged a bullet with him being pretty average with Collingwood.

Probably a few others. But they are ones that come straight to mind.

What did we get for our pick 17 then?

If you convert all the picks to "draft value" given that's what we used them for, it works out to Aish for Bastinac and pick 27.

If you look at just the Aish trade, Collingwood's ins and outs give an approximate value on what we actually got for Aish:

IN: James Aish and picks 34, 53
OUT: Picks 26, 28, 47 and 2016 second-round selection (St Kilda’s - pick 33)

I've cancelled out the roughly equal items.

17, 26 and 28 effectively got us 33 (2016), 38, 40, 50 (2016) and Bastinac. Funnily enough, using draft value again it works out that we effectively gave up pick 27 for Bastinac (which I'd argue was an overpayment).

Lets not start this whole argument again. If you'd like to know the answer you can look through the many many posts on this subject that have continually round and round in circles.

Maybe start with a search for the term "pick 17" on this board and go from there. Enjoy

Nice work. Pretty even then. I stand corrected.

Aish for sure. Played pretty average for us, and has done hardly anything he was supposed to aspire to since going to Collingwood. Crisp is a bigger loss than he was.

For some strange reason Vossie rated him. That and the Fevola signing are Exhibit A and Exhibit B in the case against Voss as a coach. Then there was the way he treated Daniel Bradshaw, Luke Power and James Hawksley. Come to think of it, I don't miss Coach Vossie.

Billy Longer. If he hadn't requested a trade it's likely we would have put games into him instead of Stef when Leuie went down which means it's possible we'd never experience Stef's elite form and we instead would have wasted time investing games into someone who isn't that good. Easy in hindsight but never should have used pick 8 on him, particularly when we got him due to seeing potential to have an impact up forward, strength of character and leadership all of which he's ended up showing none.

Cheynee Stiller. I'm sure I'll cop it,but he used to frustrate the shit out of me. Bit of a soft, nothing player that would kick little dinky balloon passes on top of guys heads. Mitch Golby was the other one I couldn't cop. Had an encouraging first year before getting injured, then just became very below average. Had no discernible skills that I could think of.
