Is incredibly annoyed at the whole Kangaroo's not going to the Gold Coast saga. Maybe its just me, but is anyone else really annoyed that they've decided to stay in Melbourne and "battle it out" instead of just bitting the bullet and realising that they have to move. Its unfair on all other clubs that the Kangaroos continue to cop high amounts of AFL funding just because they don't have the same amount of supporters as other clubs, or they're supporters dont become members.
Some might say that we were in the same scenario but we were never like this. The AFL never came out and stated that they wanted us gone. I support the hard line approach taken by the Fonz, if they dont co-opperate with the league, then f**k them over by cutting all the funding and hand outs theyve recieved in previous years.

TC:eek:

I'm happy they stayed, give them a chance to fight it out, if it works thats great if it doesn't then then we'll get the same result as if they moved up there anyway.

I think its a bit harsh to say that you're annoyed that a club did not choose to give up but to stay and fight, put yourself in the shoes of the supporters, would you have been happy if Brian Cook decided to relocate us without a chance to fight?

I wanted them to go to the Gold Coast, but I don't really mind, it's not like it's Geelong or anything.

The reason im annoyed is due to the fact that they'll expect to recieve financial help from the league and thus disadvantaging us and all other clubs.

Would be the end of them and NO resemblance to North Melbourne, just like the demise of Fitzroy, I`m glad they stuck it up the AFL:mad:

the only issue i have with this whole scenario is the bullshit odd team comp. i just hate the bye with a passion!

Aren't they thinking of introducing an 18th team from West Sydney, as well as the team on the Gold Coast? Hell, why don't we go the way of the English Premier League and have divisions and stuff, and all the Victorian based AFL sides align with a TAC Cup side for recruiting and development purposes, and add all the SANFL, WAFL and other state sides in the lower divisions? :p

One thing that pisses me off is now that Brayshaw is the Prez at Arden Street, the Footy Show will most likely become the North Melbourne Show, much like it was the Collingwood Show when Eddie was on it.

What more so than it already is, I found it funny that every award this year for best player went to geelong, Bar the ones that JB is tied up with, MMM player of the year and Cn9 player of the year which both went to north, prob the only two awards we didnt win,it's not like im bitching about it, but i just find it suss.

Seconded.

Wtf? You're annoyed they recieve cash now (and it's like a million bucks annually) because it's unfair on other clubs, so you want them to go to the Gold Coast where they'll get even more money, the AFL will build a stadium for them, and they get draft and salary cap concessions?

I'm glad they stuck it up them. The Gold Coast move is so wrong on so many levels. Victorian supporters bleed for their clubs, in recent years plenty have been brought back from the brink of disaster by supporters digging in. Yet the AFL seems to be determined to simply give people on the Gold Coast the privilege to watch AFL, even at the expense of those Victorian fans. The only justification for this in the minds of the AFL seems to be that the Gold Coast and SE Queensland are the biggest growth areas in Australia, as if it's the solemn duty of the AFL to convert every Australian to rules and tap every market. I don't have a problem with a team on the Gold Coast if you can show there is popular support for it and it comes from the Gold Coast, rather than some franchise grafted in because the AFL is determined to win hearts and minds. Good on the Roos; they finally stood up to an administration that has ridden roughshod over footy fans in recent years to service their vision of the game.

Thirded.

I thought the way the AFL tried to railroad them just stank to high heaven. Now they are given the chance - if they die, so be it, but they will have died as the NMFC, not some frankenstein-like football club. No supporter wants to follow that.

Well said also, thejester.

I don't think that is correct. Souths and Fitroy supporters still follow their clubs now even though the initial departures hurt

The point is that the Kangaroos had a long term term future in the GC. Had.

Now they have a very short term future in Melbourne. And the worrying thing for them is that they won't even have a hybrid club to follow years from now

I'm a bit split to be honest. Part of me thinks, good on them for trying to fight it out. But if I'm honest, I also don't think they have much chance of surviving in Melbourne.

It was probably their last chance to move and maintain a semblance of the old club. If they merge with another club later it won't be the same, and if they end up in any more strife the AFL will be able to move them without them having much control in the matter. They're unfortunately, fenced in by 2 powerful clubs in Essendon and Carlton, and their homeland is fast disappearing. Every other victorian club has more upside then North Melbourne. Even if they rally and manage to turn it around in the short-term, how long is it going to be before they are back in the same situation, 3 years, 5 years. They've won premierships, performed consistently on-field and still can't get a break. North Fans would still follow their team if it was their choice to move, they'll play every 2nd week in Victoria anyway, fans are more receptive to the notion than they were when South Melbourne moved.

I'm glad for North supporters that their club decided to stay and put up a fight but my heart tells me it will all be in vain. The national competition won't sustain 9 Melbourne teams for much longer and the AFL won't continue to prop up struggling clubs forever.

If Geelong was forced to relocate to Gold Coast and fighting seemed pointless I would accept 10 away games in Victoria - only if it was guaranteed for the long-term. Who cares what colour shorts we wear.

Only a portion of those supporters remain, though. Many either stopped following the league altogether (went back to local footy or the VFA or whatever) or else picked up another team. I don't think there are all that many Fitzroy supporters who now support Brisbane.

I don't know that I could support a frankensteined, relocated/merged Geelong except in a mildly curious fashion.

What will happen in a few years time after the initial enthusiasm of saving NMFC peters out? Seems to be only delaying the inevitable. Hell, a roadtrip to SE QLD to check out 2 AFL games in a weekend sounds pretty appealing to me.

The signs are starting to come through in the press already.
NMFC made a very big mistake by not relocating. Emotions should have been put to one side and the practicalities of survival should have taken a much higher priority.

The club is doomed if it remains Melbourne-based. Fact. End of story.

it's incredibly stupid to hold a grudge against an old melbourne team fighting to survive against an evil regime determined to do them in. Who gives a stuff if the AFL gives them more cash than the rest of the comp? It's not like they can't afford it.

Good luck to them. I hope they survive, but the evil empire usually emerges triumphant and I don't see how they'll build a strong supporter base in a 3-4 years when they haven't been able to do it in 70+ years.

Better to die on your feet than live on your knees. Good luck to them before the whole world turns into economically viable robot players representing regional growth areas only. History and tradition do mean something.
