I personally feel that the club needs to move on 6-8 players. I’d like up to 8 of the following to be moved on. I’d be interested in the thoughts of others. How many and who?

Hopper - trade/sack
Ralphsmith - fringe weak delist
Rioli - not good enough delist
Clarke - later part season marks card
Ryan - spud sack
Tresize - fringe
Sonsie - fringe delist
OHB - fringe
Fawcett - fringe one year contract?
Smith - fringe delist

I would think we would need at least 7-8 off the list this year. Will wait until the season is over to see if any of our fringe players can step it up to stay on the list in the second half of the season. I think the above list are pretty close to who is in danger that's for sure.

got to give Clarke 1 more opportunity, just to be certain with a decision either way.
We all understand the injuries, but the kid has the talent and drive to make it.
I will throw up if we were to delist him after all this time without giving him one more shot to show us what he has got and the body can hold up.

Looking at what we realistically can do and the draft ahead I think it's likely to be the following:
Prestia - retire
Broad - retire
2 of Trezise, Ralphsmith, Smith, Clarke and Sonsie to be delisted - the 3 remaining on a 1 year deal
OHB to be delisted and picked up in rookie draft to be on Cat A rookie list
Lefau to be upgraded to senior list on a 1 year deal
Fawcett, Rioli, Vlastuin, Lynch on 1 year deals
Retschko, Mansell, Green, Nank on 2 year deals
Annand & Burton re-rookie
3 ND selections

I think that's all (ideally Samson would be gone but don't see how that happens). We may look at a free agent or two - in that case there may be more delistings from the group of 5.

How hard to gut?

Right now you would think there are lots of spots available, but just taking our forward line into account, there shouldn't be.
Lalor, Hotton, Campbell, Cumming will all play forward at times. Algar looks a player. Faull, Sims, Armstrong. The weakest links will be Mansell and Green who can play.

Our older players are on the wane no doubt, but we have to back out youth over bringing in B grade talent from other clubs, unless they are a ruckman which we need badly. So we need to keep some depth players like Trezise and Sonsie for another year, because losing them could leave us very bare.

So draft picks will be the go, but how deep do you go.

Personally I think Sonsie has shown enough for a 2 year deal. OHB retained as depth. Fawcett may look for more opportunities? Clarke put on rookie contract and given one last crack for next year as he showed plenty of promise and was good for a goal a game even as sub in minimal minutes, looked phenomenal before his last ACL!

MRJ, Ryan (6 years) and Ralphsmith (7 years) have had plenty of time and opportunities and aren't up to AFL standard. Time to try other players. Ryan's list spot is more Valuable than his contract...... maybe we can finagle his contract into a reserves contract? Need to get as many potential quality Rookies/ psd in before Tassie snaffle the lions share.
