I've heard and read countless people suggesting that Clarke should never have become captain and should be sacked from his position. I'd just like to know, for those who hold this belief, who should have been selected/should replace Clarke as captain.

For me, I'm neither a Clarke lover nor am I a Clarke hater but personally I just don't see who else it could be at present.

I would quit following the sport if this arseh*le ever ha anything to do with the Asutralian team again. Just a very mediocre person.

Clarke is a great Captain, he speaks well, acknowledges both good and bad play from both (contrary to the example today) the Australian team and our opponents, he has continually scored runs under pressure (even though people will bring up his failings too), and has Captained Australia to 3 consecutive non-losing series (hey, its ****ing better than losing them).

I will give him a :thumbsu: even though many of you won't.

I rate his field captaincy 80% of the time too. He's started well. People always bitch and winge and think they know everything but the reality is they don't. It's like in AFL where when Essendon had a losing streak and the "Sack Hird, sack Thompson" ****s came out.

Well, Ponting has to shoulder some of the blame today... he might not be captain any more, but he is the senior batsman in the team.

Yeah of course, but I was more meaning the fact that some people used to say we only lost because Ponting was captain - he couldn't lead, didn't have the respect, and was poor tacticly (he wasn't special but was good enough).

I actually think Clarke has done well as skipper.
I certainly don't think the recent losses have had anything to do with his captaincy.

Exactly my thoughts.:thumbsu: The shit he cops on here is seriously plain annoying now.

He needs to improve his handling of the media with regards to Hughes, needs to stop being matey with Hughes as he keeps him in the team and that should do it. Oh and sometimes he needs to score runs when we desperately need it..

No idea about the level or respect either Ponting or Clarke have within the dressing room, or who is the better "leader". But IMHO Clarke is showing himself to be tactically superior to Ponting in just about every way. He just seems to have a far greater "feel" for the position of the game and knows when to change the bowlers, and how to set fields. And most noticeably, he seems to have a vague understanding of spinners... something Ponting never seemed to master.
