Why would you want Longmire?

Sydney are travelling just as poorly and if you talk to Swans fans, i reckon most think he's past his use by date and want him gone too.
I wouldn't even invite him for the nostalgia. Terrible decision.

We need a coach who's ahead of the game and is also a hardass, thats why I'm bullish about Mitchel most of all because he brings both qualities to a team.

If the gettable names being bandied about in this thread are the only ones out there then realistically, the value of changing the current coach is hardly going to be worthwhile.

Clarko and Simmo make sense if they were attainable. Mitchell as well, and as much as it pains me, Hodges has more leadership skills that he could teach than any other of the possible candidates. I'm not convinced that any of those blokes are likely to take on the job though, even if the stars lined up regarding contracts and so on.

Even Ratten would probably prefer to have a chance to finish the job at the Aunts, as that seems to be working out.

Sumich... He seems to be respected as a developer, and North have plenty of room for that in order to improve. But other than what I read here, I know nothing.

But the suggestions of Leppa, Voss and their Ilk. Na. Please, just no.
So you’d prefer to keep the current proven spud because the replacement just might be a spud?
I think that’s what the board thought the last two early contract extensions haha

Both Sando/Voss I think would be keen for another go around and would leave their “easy life”

What I like about Sando is he’s also coached the ais academy like his mate bucks
Come on man, Sandersons?!

Hardly. I'm just saying that replacing scotts with a proven dud is a completely ****** up idea.

One of my 2nd cousins (who knows people in the club) told me that Ben Buckley had lunch with John Longmire before the Adelaide game (discussing his commitment to Sydney long term, and the potential to come to North). Just thought it would be interesting to share. Especially since both he and Scott run out of contract at the end of 2020.

No more free apprenticeships for assistant coaches.

We should go for an experienced AFL coach, at least for the short term.
If Clarkson, Simpson or Horse were available then yes, otherwise Mitchell or Caracella. Surround them with quality experience similar to Ratten at St Kilda, Voss at Port, Leppa at Richmond, Harvey at Pies, McCartney at Dees. I don't mind the Mitchell/Hodge double scenario.

Longmire has got a flag amongst 3 grand final appearances in total. Maintained a hard defensive playing culture that has seen the side competitive at all venues almost every season.

Yes the Cola Swans have more than their fair share of inappropriate advantages but so do at least 3-4 other clubs and they can't all boast the above output.

If he was interested and we were looking I'd hope he's seriously considered.

I have question marks about Longmire.

He inherited a good side that has been artificially propped up and hasn't shown me enough to convince me he has the capabilities to drag a side up the ladder. His game style is hardly breathtaking viewing either.

If there isn't an experienced football team put together to investigate the best option for North, then the next coach is just going to the boards choice who they believe will placate us for a while.

I have a sense that the next coach of this club is going to be crucial in regards to our security. We can't afford another 5 years of generic mediocrity whilst we slowly suffocate.

There is no point replacing him with someone who we know is worse and some of the names at the end of that comment are.

For me its about the play off between these two things with Longmire.

I think I'm leaning against it but only if we think something better is an option. Mitchell could work except he is unproven so who knows what will happen. Ratten might be a good option given what's happened at St Kilda and the whole "system is killing us" thing that is happening right now.

I fear that the board will appoint someone simply because they are a safe option. This is the mindset that landed us where we are right now.

I want to see a core of experienced football minds assembled with the sole mission of appointing their best option for who they believe will deliver a premiership.

Yes this is true. I wasn't specific really in my original reply.

To switch gears up from the perspective of someone who has long thought Brad and North's relationship had expired, here are names I would potentially retain Brad ahead of for 2020.

Longmire - as discussed very much a yin yang proposition. You could assemble almost exactly balanced pros and cons lists for him.

Voss - egomaniac and disaster in his 1st gig. While it was a novelty act nothing I saw of him on The Recruit made me think he was a great club mentor in waiting. Pass.

Mitchell - Great footy smart player and comes from playing and coaching under the best in the business. But still very green and don't know enough about his management skills or if he's close to ready to assume control of a club's football direction. Might be the next Clarkson / might be the next Hird.

Hodge - never coached. No way.

Sanderson - slightly better performed version of Voss. Assistant seems his niche.
