Who Stood Up?

Just on the 2nd one. Milne had his hands on Harrys back. Should've been a free to H.

Technically yes but he hardly pushed and no way in hell a man harry's size should get held out by a rat milne's size

Beams and Dawes both looked like deers caught in the headlights, Blair, caff not much better. Swan, didak, pendlebury, wellingham all fantastically well held.

Thomas, sidebottom, Maxwell were fantastic, Leigh brown and cloke alright and Davis shitful

I thought Caf was pretty good to be honest, not great but certainly not the worst player we had. I also thought Leigh Brown was pretty average.

Mmmmm
Thomas, Maxwell and Heater (especially his last quarter) were massive.
Reid was very solid all day, hardly allowed Kosi anything.
N. Brown - I felt that performance has sealed Presti's fate, couple of outstanding contested marks and spoils shared the honours in his battle with Roo.
HarryO - good till half time then faded somewhat, almost felt sick seeing Milne outmark him in the last.
Swan and Pendles - just did not do enough after half time especially awol in the 3rd which cost us dearly - Jones/Ray did enough of a stopping job on Swany that he didnt even get 25 touches:eek:
Pendles hope he is ok, but will need to redeem himself.
Ball - did not win enough clearances and more tackles please next time
Beamer - over awed, should be better for the run
Sidebottom - what a classy player - impressed me.
Jolly - solid
Anvil - solid
Cloke - did what he always does angina for all Pies fans every time he shoots for goal. Nevertheless three strong contested marks I give him a satisfactory rating
Dawes - just needed to move the ball on a bit quicker, the Saints defence seemed to swallow up all his forward 50 entries - will learn much though.
Johnno - seemed to fade a bit as the game wore on ( most did).
Didak - did some crucial things, however I felt should have been introduced into the centre as Hayes, Goddard and co wrested control from us.
Caff - solid enough performance
Blair - ditto, both these young boys will draw immensely from the experience.
Wellas - great job up till half time, very quiet after - hope he is not badly injured.
Tooves - one daggy turn over otherwise very solid display.
Davis - did not produce enough to maintain his spot - thanks for the goal though

The defence proved again that it is as good as the Saints - all deserve massive tick for their performance. This unit is throughly well drilled and led by our Captain who defies his legion of knockers(see other teams supporters) week in week out. These 6 guys deserve our plaudits!

The forwards - Saints clogged up our forward 50 way too easily, and Fisher was allowed to easily rebound far too often. We will need to review how to break them down. I felt Cloke was easily our best forward, yes he does frustrate us all though.

The mids - apart from Daisy, now fellas after half time we did not really match them. We did not seem to be able to shake the tags, and that 3rd quarter of inactivity was a massive disappointment. Guys like Swan, Pendles, Wellas, Ball, Beams and where was Dids in rotation there. The annoying thing is not score board pressure from any of Beams, Pendles, Swan or Wellas. This is where I feel we did not gain the upper hand. Normally we find a couple of goals from this group.

Overall the team showed it is worthy, just a couple of adjustments needed for the ultimate prize I feel. Gee it was a Hollow feeling and could not find it in me to relive the experience by watching the replay.

That said the sun rose this morning and already I am feeling a bit better - not so cocky as before though.

Soorry all for my drivel - kinda therapeutic for me though - hope u understand:)

For me only Maxwell and Sidebottom got up yesterday.

Swan looked like a ghost of himself.
The most disappointing you have to say is Cloke.

With the quality of delivery cloke played a cloke game, was certainly the best of all our forward marking targets

For mine Daisy Thomas played excellent, hard at the ball all game and did insprirational stuff in the 1st quarter. He has been labelled soft in the past but has really come of age.

Maxwell played the role of a captain who leads by example. Our players who were quiet yesterday need to take his effort to put into their own next week. Hard effort will always be rewarded and will spur team mates to do the same.

I thought Brown did a super job on Reiwoldt, imo as good as presti. Presti is a great backman, but Brown may now be just as good, with youth and fitness on his side.

We should have lost that game. We did everything we can to lose it in the last quter. The replay will be a huge advantade for us. Most of the boys played their first grand final and Stkildas pain from last year wouldnt affect the result on Saturday. I also cant see Swann having another game with 20 touches, I think he will explode and I cant see us play like that two weeks in a row. I was very impressed with Sidebottom, N Brown and Thomas, outstanding game from them, it was so good watching Brown our mark Reiwoldt on several times he is gonna be a super backman. Stkilda have alot older players then us and older players tend to recover more slowly so thats also a bonus for us. Go Pies!

agreed - I think we have another gear while Sainters did really well but probably don't have anything left. Well done to both sides and hats off to the Saints for plugging away.

We were dragged across the line by Hayes and Goddard. There was a group of our best that was just ok (Riewoldt, Montagna, Schneider) and then some that were a shadow of their best (Dal Santo, Gram). Next week McEvoy will play which means we'll have 22 and Kosi will be able to help out up forward. Make no mistake, St Kilda can definitely go up a gear next week if everything clicks.

For Collingwood I thought Thomas was hugely influential, Maxwell did a great job of cutting off supply to Riewoldt and Sidebottom really impressed me. No doubt Swan and Pendlebury will be looking to improve next week.

Do Pies supporters think Davis will hold his place? Even though he hasn't done much, I'd rather not have him playing against us. That goal in the last quarter shows what he can do if not closely marked.

Nick Maxwell, Daisy was very good but IMO Nick had the greatest impact on the game for you guys.

Thomas, N.Brown, Maxwell, Steele, Toovey, Reid, Jolly and Shaw.

In that order N.Browns job was massive for a young bloke.

Thomas clearly our best by a mile and Maxwell 3rd best had a great game.

Thought Macaffer and Blair also had good games with Pendles and Swan good but below there normal output.

I agree with you both teams played crap and both will be looking to play much better next week. As for Leon, he may have kicked that goal in the last but he probley cost us from getting more and turned the ball over a fair bit. I think replace Leon with Goldsack and have the same side we had against the Cats. I thought id struggle to go through 1 grand final week and now there is another one in the space of 7 days. Bloody Hell.

I don't know about that. Grand Finals are a different game, the pressure was immense, tackle numbers and contested ball were huge... Think tackles at half time were like 53-49 don't know how it finished... but that is absolutely huge. So obviously disposal numbers and key players were going to be down on there usual numbers but still think there effect on the game was all the same.

Daics_35 - I feel you are somewhat harsh in saying that - I believe you are selling both teams short. Let me elaborate as to why - the fact that both sides went out and laid 189 tackles - the avg game delivers less than 120, also that 301 contested possessions (generally doesnt get past 260) shows an intensive high pressure game! The thing that surprised me somewhat is that they out tackled us. We need to rectify that next week.

To expect free flowing footy against/from the Saints well nup just doesnt happen - many of their players performed their roles to a tee. As the 2 best defensive units in the game its is understandable that the game was close and tight.

It was a draining and epic match.

What I meant with crap was, there were way to many skill errors in the game and probley the worst skilled GF since the 2005 one. The contest and tackling was great and didnt allow a team to dominate and that was caused due to the preasure from both Stkilda and Collingwood. But i still think the skills were terrible even when preasure wasnt applied. I think both teams can deffs play better then yesterday.

Thomas our best, Maxwell second, Sidey third. Reid and N Brown also good, with Heater playing well, but only in the second half.

Ball was unsighted, and Beams was probably our worst (which I found surprising, since in tight games he usually shines).

It wasn't Leroy's best game, but it wasn't near his worst. Pendles was... pretty woeful also.

In fact, most of our players were pretty woeful. Johnno was okay. He was playing a defensive role so you have to keep that in mind. Harry O well below his best.

And Swan... well not fantastic but better than half our team at least.

edit: actually, forgot Blair! Blair played quite well.

Agree with many, Daisy Maxi and sidebottom were great for us. You can tell that the bigger the stage and challenge thomas just feels more and more at home.

I thought the game was less physically hard than anticipated, maybe i will change my mind when i watch it again.

Whatever the result next week the draw has been a huge gift for Collingwood. We now have a predominantly young group who after next week will all have a minimum of not 1 but 2 grand finals under their belts. A priceless amount of additional experience when you think about it.
