Who do you think will be out No1 ruckman? i reckon Stafford to go into the forward line with Simmonds as main ruckman and Knobel off the bench. i think Stafford is just about finished and Simmonds i think he is better around the ground than Knobel

IMO Knobel should be the No. 1 ruckman, Simmonds will play forward and Stafford will rotate off the bench with Knobel, then swapping with Simmonds in the ruck and forward while on the ground.. I think it will work..

Agreed Hammer, will be like sainters. Staff is best ruck, but will run out of steam, Simmonds looks good, but is more of a forward....sorry to say but the Knob will struggle to get a game. Hall is not a ruckman

Richmond plan a 3-man tag team approach for rucking around the ground.

Troy the Boy softens them up with a rabbit killer/karate chop combination,
then Golden Staff delivers his Peoples Elbow
followed by Trent's finishing move the Knobel "peace prize"

First victim will be the big Donut

Knobel got 23 games with the saints this year, and you think hes going to struggle to get a game with us,

LMAO@ the golden staff delivering the peoples elbow .

I don`t know how many of you have noticed but Knobel`s only value is in the ruck contests and we will get FA else out of him .

IMO , he should be used exclusively as a battering ram at the ruck contests to soften up opposition big boys leaving Staff and Simmons to do the Kick behind play/ forward stuff .

I reckon the Big "o" will not be able to get far enough away from Stafford come round one . Plough will know his soft underbelly and anyone who knows ploughs history as a coach , there is nothing more he loves than exposing a weakness . ;)

Geez Simmo will be ********ed off if he's not our main ruck as it was one of the reasons he cited for wanting to come to the Tiges.

Exactly. That is why Carlton had him lined up and pretraining with them. Reminded them of another big unit who once ruled the ruck jungle.

Fortunately for us the new Tigers brainstrust beat the Blueboys at their own game.

Knobel in the ruck. Stafford on the forward line. Simmo a kick behind play to help out our HB line. No more softcox.

dont forget we have the new 10m circle rule. being that i think simmonds will get a better chance of being the no 1 ruckman. depending on who the opposing ruck is we could still have staff in there and simmonds up forward and then rotating it between each other. i would like to see a game with all three rucks on the feild at once. itd bee interesting.... 2 of them up forward could be damaging and richo at chf..... what team is goin to be able to match our heights? could be very damaging or could be very bad.... but it wouldnt suprise me if TW gives something like this ago.

I think Stafford will be our new FF as he doesn't have the legs to stay in the ruck for long periods leaving Simmonds to ruck swapping with Staff at FF or with Knobel off the bench.

The key will be if TW and Alessio can start to get more out of Knobel, he needs to improve around the ground and taking contested marks.

I agree with BG 25. There is no way Simmonds won't start in the first ruck. I think Knobel will be played off the bench and Stafford will be first ruck for Coburg as I don't think they could play 3 big blokes in the one team.

But TW has already stated that Stafford will be a key part in our forward line for 2005. If Knobel is on the bench while Simmonds is in the ruck, we have no tall forward in the goalsquare as Richo will most likely be out at CHF. Maybe TW will discontinue Stafford's ruck work unless he's desperately required to do so (eg. injury of Knobel or Simmonds).

Oh and with Schulz earmarked for CHB, I doubt we can have just (possibly) Campbell, Brown and Krakouer up forward alone. Campbell will be more of a leading forward unlike Stafford who will provide a contest for the crumbers in Brown and Krakouer.

Your point about Stafford is a good one but his lack of pace always worry me. I know opposition teams like to run off him. Wallace used a small forward line at the Bulldogs so it wouldn't surprise me if he did the same with Richmond but still rested Simmonds down there late in every quarter.

was thinking the same thing..in fact half the reason he lost some of the early gloss he gained at Freo in 2003 was the emergence of sandilands as first ruck meaning simmo was for the main a KF....as a KF he would be better than avaerage ..as a follower he can be damaging ...I owuld be reserving Knobel for injuries ...there is no room in side for staff/knobel and simmo

It is an interesting problem to have! The main highlight of round one against Geelong will be Staff "stalking" the little O - god with a face like Staffs, Ottens will be quaking in his boots. Staff should be up forward because of his goal kicking. Haven't exactly followed Simmonds enough to know what he is like. As for Knobel "peace prize" let him have a chance in the ruck.
