Interchange: Morton, Jurrah, Gysberts, macDonald.

Who I want: Either MacDonald or Gysberts.

However an interesting one would be Jurrah!

Imagine a fired up Jurrah coming into the game in the last quarter with the game in the balance...that would be some great viewing...:D

MacDonald is not a sub-type player, couldn't see any possible reason for it.

Jurrah for mine. Either make him the sub or play him on a wing during the 1st quarter.

Well if all these players played a BOG game then...id say MacDonalds best would not be at the level of the other three...so the logic behind him being the emergency is that u want ur best players on the field for as long as u can...i dunno but hey :thumbsu:

Morton for me.

I reckon Jurrah is gonna have a huge game after last's week performance. I legitimately expect him to kick 5+ goals and tear Richmond's defense a new one.

I would say the logic of the sub is to bring a player on who can impact the game.

Macdonald does his best work over a whole game with 1%ers, spoils, etc.

Jurrah can destroy a game in a quarter.

A fresh Jurrah coming on at 3/4 time would be a sight to behold.

Excuse my intrusion. Was coming onto your board to ask this exact same question.

We have loaded up on 2 extra defenders, Gourdis who can play on tall and mids, and Batchelor, who can play on guys up to around 192cm (he'sd 188 himself). Whats the chance that Jurrah, Jamar, and Watts all start there? Does that depend on Morton?

The structure (defensively for ours, and forward for yours) seems to depend pretty significantly on who plays the sub.

I take it as a complement that your structure depends significantly on who we select...never the less Id say morton would play more a a back flank/wing with Jurrah and Watts to start forward and Jamar to play to the cameo roll in the forward line several times on the day as well as the ruck...

That's a fine point, just a different way of looking at it I guess. TPM's post a couple above this one summarizes my thoughts on the subject.

Matchups obviously can affect the game result big time, or should i say glaring mismatches. So your opinion is that Gysbert or MacDonald will be the sub.
With your guys win last week, defense is (in our defensive 50) going to be on the forefront of our mind. Yours will be that we can cough it pretty up easy in our defensive 50 (because if you don't we do score pretty well). I can see alot of the game being played in your half.

I think it won't be Macdonald because we are potentially light-on for defenders given that Trengove is named on the HBF. Plus Joel has been in ripping form this past month or so.

We could but someone that is in the current 22 would have to withdraw from the game.

Fair enough, but in reality have you seen someone named on the field that was then named as the sub? I can't remember that this has happened for the Tiges this year.

I would doubt it will be MacDonald. Has been solid over the last month, unless there is no match up for him.

Can't see it being Gysberts as we will need him for the midfield rotations.

So it's between Morton and Jurrah for mine. Jurrah is due to explode, so I'd suggest he starts on the ground. Has played well against the Tiges before as well. Morton isn't an impact player, so I feel he would be a waste as sub. Will be interesting.

People understand the sub doesn't have to come from those listed on the bench right?

While possible, I don't recall us choosing a player named on the field as the sub so far this year, so it is likely to assume that one of those 4 will be the sub. Just like when you have an extended bench, you have to lose 3 players when final teams are named, you could potentially re-shuffle & remove a player who was originally named on the ground, but it almost never happens barring injury.

MacDonald is not a sub, I'd rather see him dropped than played as the sub. Not sure about Jurrah, while others have said he can tear a game apart in a quarter, sometimes he takes 2 quarters to get warmed up. The other week I think he had 5 shots at goal in the 1st quarter for 1.3 (?). I think he's should start on the ground for the opposite reason to MacDonald, we need to give him as long as possible to try to work his magic. Perfect candidate to be subbed off if not playing well.

Morton made a few mistakes but I think he needs to be tested with full games. Also his game style is an accumulator, his best games are when he gets lots of space & plays as a link man, which can be hard to do in a quarter. That said Gys is an accumulator as well.

My conclusion is that none of the bench players are particularly suited to be the sub.

I'd go with Gys & activate him no later than mid 3rd quarter, he could still get 10 touches & a fresh ball winner can never hurt. But I think they will go with Jurrah, several time this year player close to being dropped have got last chances as subs, which I don't like, but that's what we've done.

What a joke Bennell has been picked over Bartram! I would pick Bartram every time over Bennell you've got one bloke who will put his body on the line for the side, sure he may make some mistakes but bennell doesn't even get the footy to make mistakes and doesn't put his body on the line!

I think it's for pace, he is a lot quicker than Bartram & could run with or defend against the speed of Nahas. I agree Bartram deserves his spot ahead of JB but Bailey is going with "team balance."

And as Oscarman said I think he will be the sub too.

I can see what your saying, but at the end of the day Bartram is simply a better selection, Bartram is quick enough and harder at the man and ball than Bennell. But Bailey does have something for him of all out players Bennell gets a very very good run with selection.

That's because Bennell can go a long way towards setting up a win by breaking the lines off half back. You're right, Bartram is a great competitor, but he doesn't cause as much damage to the opposition IMHO. It all depends in effort with JB though...

I think Jurrah will be sub this week. He deserves to be dropped, has been terrible for two months. We keep saying he's going to light it up each week and then he just jogs around refusing to tackle and looking for cheap goals out the back. Plus, as everyone has already mentioned, the other 3 on the bench aren't 'impact' players.
