Who will be the Eagles next Captain? - now with a poll

Before I start here, I just wanna say that Darren Glass is an out and out champion and club legend - but in saying that he will be relinquishing the captaincy within the next couple of years.

I'm just interested to hear from other Eagles supporters who they think will be a good candidate for our next captain.

My candidates include (in preferential order):

Shannon Hurn
Beau Waters
Josh Kennedy

These may not be the most experienced players but I think we should go with someone young with at least between 5 to 10 years left (like we did with Benny - even though he may have not ended as they shining light we all had hoped). Going with a younger player would also be a sign we are beginning to head in a new direction - hopefully up the ladder.

The time is right for Waters. Shuey could achieve anything and wouldn't suprise if he captained in the future.

Waters worries me. Has everything except disposal. Needs to sort that shit out or he can't possibly be captain. Glass sorted his out/found a work around. Waters needs to get some advice from Glass.

I'd keep Glass for another year. See how Waters pans out. If Waters doen't pan out I think we will need a 2-year filler captain.

Waters next captain for sure so long as his body can hold up. If not Waters i'll go against the consensus so far and throw in Adam Selwood's name. Shows strong leadership qualities. Has really improved his game from being a solely shut down player to a shut down player amd ball getter. He might not be our strongest midfielder physically but always gives his all and puts his head over the footy

Hopefully something like the captaincy will keep Shuey at West Coast because he has massive leadership potential

Yeah I think the Eagles would go for Selwood also - but if he's only got limited time left on his career compared to Waters etc coz of age IMO I would prefer a captain that could do it for 5+ years and still be one of our better performers.

Isnt there already a gazillion threads on this? Why does everyone keep appointing Shuey as a future captain? He hasnt proven anything yet. I think too many people on here are sheep and read too much from other BF sheep but thats just my opinion. I hope he is everything people have hyped him up to be but geez let him play a full season first atleast before he's worshipped to the extent some of you go.

I like the suggestion of Beau Waters though, his attitude and attack on the game would be nice to rub off on the younger brigade.

I reckon there are a few blokes who would be great candidates in about 2/3 years.

But right now our core of players 24-26 is weak.

Waters is an option - but his kicking is woeful (I must admit i never remember it being that bad). However he has a decent skill-set to overcome it.

I noticed that as well, yeah his kicking isn't great but he does the little things around the field that make you notice.

I hope Priddis is never given the captaincy don't like him at all.

I'm happy for him to hold on to the captaincy just want to see him return to some good form hopefully with a good pre-season that will be the case!!

Waters hasn't played enough football over the last few years to warrant him being captain yet. Mark LeCras or Shannon Hurn would make great captains, i'd be happy with either one of them.
