In phantom drafts - Macca69 has us down for Clayton Collard, MrMorris for Clinton Benjamin, Tom Hislop, Jack Reiwoldt (most likely going to Bulldogs), Eric Mackenzie and Kurt Tippet are also around the mark. What do anyone know about these guys and which one should we pick.

Would be very happy with Jack Riewoldt, have seen bits of him playing for the Tas Devils, and he looks the goods. Reasonable bloodlines as well.

Read a story in today's Mercury regarding Hislop, he's a strong bodied midfielder with a standing vertical leap of 80cm, up there with Croad's and Rama. Could be one to add to our fast rising stock of strong midfielders.

I think ur forgetting that we dont need any more slow, hard bodied midfielders. Give us KPP and/or PACEY midfielders! Clinton Benjamin sounds great!!!

Would love Jetta but he won't be around then, i'm betting we will take Collard if he is available, one of those 2 in that order would be nice, exactly what we need

If you don't take him at 12, you won't get him unless you get another pick through trades. Will definitely go top 20, would be ecstatic if he was still around by pick 17-which is a distinct possibility, but he may go even earlier.

Players i think might be thereabouts at #12

Collard: 181cm HFF/Mid. Prodigous talent and natural football ability, good above his head for his size, good clean hands and can dance around tacklers and make them miss, disposal is quite good put perhaps not as elite level as Connors left foot for example. Question marks seem to be whether he has the engine to make it as a pure mid. I don't share those concerns watching him in the champs he seemed to pop up all over the ground when playing on ball for a good period of time. good chance to be taken before 12

Riewoldt: 193 KPF. Can play back or forward, might start on a HFF at AFL level and play a similar role to Waite at Carlton, but will move into a KP role in time, quick enough in a straight line lead, good hands, good second efforts, spent some time in the middle in the champs and didn't look out of place there either. Could be gone by 12

Benjamin: 189cm, Utility. Super quick and agile, could play HBF on the oppositions third tall, or play as a leading forward, or even on a wing. Versatile, maybe more an athlete than a natural footballer but from what i've seen his decision making and disposal are fine, will take defenders on using his blistering pace, very graceful running action. Question marks seem to be his intensity and confidence but i think this will develop over time. Maybe more of a risk than others but huge potential upside.

Connors: 182cm?? Outside mid/hbf, but can win contested ball as well...quite quick and agility..AFL level, good body size and shape with the potential to put on some muscle without affecting his agility too much. Will also take on defenders and try to be creative, good hurt factor as Wisbey would say. Disposal by hand and foot is generally sound. Also good overhead mark for his size. Raking penetrating left foot kick which is already elite level, would perfectly round out the Demons midfield IMO.

Hislop: 184cm Inside mid/HBF

Jetta: 176cm Onballer: Quick

Armitage: 183cm: Inside Mid

Houli: 180cm Mid/Forward

Reid: 196cm KPP trapped in a flankers body

Haven't got time to do all the profiles, better off looking at the draft board anyway, but the first 4 i listed would be my favourites at the moment anyway. Personally on talent and Melbourne's need i would be looking at a Collard, Connors or Benjamin, look at a tall forward later in the draft, maybe with #30.

Let's just pick the best player available and not worry about the position they play.

We can't afford to **** up in another superdraft ala Molan in 2001.

Know we have been speaking to a young kid from the jets named Nathan Lyons can play, only thing old man tries to control his career and his a dead set knob. Will be a good late pick for us if we can get rid of the old man.

i reckon youll get nathan brown with this pick

I reckon a quick skillful outside midfielder is what we need. It has been a fair while since we recruited one except for maybe Bartram but he went into defence. Recent midfields: mclean, sylvia, moloney, jones, bate are all tough inside nuts and we have stocked up well there. We now need to give Bell and C Johnson more time in the middle to help out Green, Johnstone, Yze and Bruce as receivers. However...Riewoldt does have a good pedigree and could be a safe draft pick if still around but I'll trust CC :) His position mightn't be what we need though? With Dunn, Miller and perhaps Newton all vying for key forward spots. Would Riewoldt be any better than Dunn?
