but can't think of a reason why they shouldn't still be favourites.

average ruck stocks, no champion KPD (apart from Roughead, who has yet to play half a season in defense), quite a slow midfield apart from the 29 year old Burgoyne.
There's a few reasons why they may have some issues when the top teams start peaking around mid to late August
But as long as those who aren't too familiar with footy keep pumping them up at this early stage of the year, the better it will be for a number of teams who are flying under the radar.
WC could finish top 2 this year and wont have to play a final away from home until the grand final.haha Essendon already has 2 votes, yep' this is a serous poll
They couldn't even comprehensively defeat a side that will struggle to make top 8 let alone defeating the top 4 sides in a final.
Collngwood are a side to be reckoned with, we saw how underdone their main players were against Hawthorn and even still controlled large periods of that game.
Thomas, Ball, Swan were quite average, they will be tough to beat in September when they get the full squad back.
West Coast will continue to struggle on the MCG and until they win a final over here with the current crop, they shouldn't be genuine chances of winning it.
Fremantle are foxy but they are in the same boat as West Coast and struggle away from home.
Carlton getting talked about but they still can't seem to beat Hawthorn or Collingwood and haven't really looked close to toppling them.
We didn't have one in 2008 either....average ruck stocks, no champion KPD (apart from Roughead, who has yet to play half a season in defense), quite a slow midfield apart from the 29 year old Burgoyne.

It's too early to tell.Whoever gets on a roll at the right time of the season. Won't be Geelong or Collingwood. Probably out of Hawthorn or Carlton for mine.
Average ruck stocks, no champion KPF (apart from Podsiadly, who will a good player is no champion), quite slow apart from the 31 year old Wojcinski.
I'm not actually taking a swipe at Geelong who are a super outfit, but you'd be crazy to rate Hawthorn as anything but a real flag threat.

We didn't have one in 2008 either....
If you work as a team, you don't need champions on every line.
Shiels, Smith and Rioli are far from slow.
Anyway, midfields don't entirely rely on footspeed. Geelong have never had an abundance of speed through the middle in their dominant years, what they do have is hard bodies who can move the ball quickly and accurately.
