Was going to point out that's 165-175 runs in the first session for that to happen... but then I realised they scored 167 runs in the final session today! (albeit a slightly extended session - 36 overs)

If Gilchrist is still there and with Lee and Bichel (not exactly slow scorers) still to come, it is not out of the question but thinking about it I guess the sticking point would be the poms would probably only bowl around 25 or 26 overs for the session. Particularly if their bowlers are getting smashed around the park.

Right now (stumps day 2), I reckon England are just ahead. But there's a LOT of play to come, you wouldn't want to put your house on any result.

IMHO both sides are a bit similar in that they have pretty good batting, strong openers, stubborn middle order and potentially nuisance-value tailenders. Both also have somewhat injury depleted bowling attacks.

Tomorrow's first session is all important, I think. To have a really good chance of victory, Australia will want at least a 100 run lead on the first innings, and then to bowl out the poms cheaply - our chasing of small totals is notoriously rubbish.

Gilchrist/Langer/Hobart/Pakistan. Something I'd rather NOT have to go through again (given that most of that last day I was on an XPT from Melbourne to Sydney, stretching out at ridiculous angles to get ANY sort of ABC radio reception! )

I'll definately tip Australia from here. Steve Waugh & Gilchrist looked fantastic during their partnership this evening, and I wouldn't be at all surprised if they lasted for quite a while tomorrow.
After that, a lot depends on England's second innings. As we saw in Melbourne, Australia wouldn't want to be chasing too many in the last innings.

I don't know hey I can easily see England edging Australia out. But I wouldnt be suprised if the htting runs are scored by Steve Waugh.

Well, I'll say this - the ONLY thing in Australia's favour is Nasser Hussain's captaincy. I reckon he'll get paranoid and try to set 450+ for the Aussies to win. In doing so, he will probably have to bat till tea and leave only 3-4 sessions to bowl us out. If the target is above 400, I reckon the Aussies will probably play out the draw - if it is 300-350, the team knows they have done it before and will have a go.

Caddick and Hoggard have started really well. Great line & length and swinging the ball just enough.

Australia to win with Gilly coming in and scoring 200 to win it. Steve Waugh to hit the winning runs!
