I think he means as in players.

On current form Sean Clingeleffer, if he keeps improving, would be a viable choice to replace Gilchrist down the track.

As for Warne, it is nearly impossible to replace someone of his skill. McGill maybe as a temporary measure and then some new blood.

I think after Warne we have a hell of a lot of "South African spinners". That is they dont concede many runs but then dont take many wickets either. Along with Hauritz i think there were 4 spinners that bowled against South Africa in the final of the U-19 world cup led by white and doherty.

The only young spinner that i can see playing a good amount of test cricket is Cameron White.

The problem is he's only 18, and with Warne only playing for another 1-2 years he might have to be fast tracked.

Stuart MacGill will replace Shane Warne when he retires. Now here is a man with a test bowling average of 25, someone who would literally walk into every other test team in the world but can't get a game for Australia.

Out of the youngsters, Cameron White looks like a good prospect, as well as Nathan Hauritz, but they still have a long way to go.

I think Adam Gilchrist has a few years ahead of him... isn't he still under 30??? ;);)

Cheers!! :)

MacGill is already 31, surely Australia won't look in his direction when Warne retires.

No chance Australia will pick a 33 year old as their number 1 spinner when he will have been off the test scene for a good 3-4 years.

Why not? If he is the best spinner in the country then he should play for Aust. Why play someone who isn’t as good because he’s younger? With improved fitness programs in all sports, age is not the same liability anymore. A 33 year old today is usually in far better condition than a 33 year old from ten years ago.

You'd think that MacGill and Warne will retire at about the same time. Hauritz, I believe, doesn't turn it enough to be considered for test cricket.
