In the 94 GF, Buddha was viciously corked by Woosha in the very beginning of play. They knew if Buddha was stopped, that was the end of our engine room.

Off for effectively 3q, came on and could not hobble, miserable day, Ablett's 34th birthday too, a stinker. The obnoxious p----d WCE fans were singing Happy Birthday every time they goaled, which was plenty.

I think even Buddha himself is on record as saying he shuns his grand final records.
Watching the games and then looking up the stats, it really does reaffirm how often these guys went missing. Hocking simply never fired a shot in every single grand final he appeared in.

Fast forward to a bloke many regard as the closest player to Buddha's game style (Selwood), and he has stood up when it got tough on more than a few occasions in the big one over the years.

13, 21, 20, 19 stats in 89, 92, 94, 95 consecutively.
Not huge numbers by his standards, but in 89, he was mangled by Dipper, had to come off; in 94, he was severely corked, but still managed 20 possessions.
He was so prolific normally that his numbers and output in GF's were below par.
Also, he often got sucked in and gave away a few frees. > USUAL

Selwood- 17, 29, 24, 28- much better numbers.

I don't think being critical of a player's lack of form is scape goating.
He really has done little this year.
Generally scape goats are the players who are singled out for blame for the poor performance of the team in general.

I'm usually one to allow a lot of slack to players for struggling with their form, because there is a myriad of causes that may contribute to poor performance….causes that supporters are not aware of more often than not.

Murdoch, in the games I have watched, almost seems to be a passenger, and has made no impact on games to date. Perhaps a slow start, and some time in the VFL, will allow him to build to meet the challenge later in the season.

The guy has played 42 games and his progression is on an upward curve. His rise hasn't been as quick as our captain's though so most have moved on. Darcy Lang (averaging 9 disposals a game in the NAB Challenge), is the flavour of the month now. I hope he makes his mark early or the vultures will circle. We're an impatient lot.

He kicked 22 goals from 23 games in 2014 (including 8 games with multiple goals). Bartel kicked 27 goals and was our 2nd leading goal scorer for the year. Natural progression should see Murdoch kick 30+ this year if he's played in the same role. Along with his speed and defensive pressure, he's a valuable commodity. There's certainly room for improvement but it's important to remember that he's only young.

Those who were always against him have slowly started to change their minds on the back of his 5 goals in the reserves last week but he's always been one of the whipping boys.
It's not that long ago that people were opting for Mitch Brown ahead of him on the back of the round 23 clash with Brisbane.

Walker is easily my number 1.
Cowan is number 2, but other than VFL I haven't seen him in 4 years.

That was last year though, this year he hasn't kicked 1 goal yet and seems to be out of form. I hope he can improve because we really need a at least someone else to kick 30-40+ goals that aren't Tom and Mitch.
