In another thread I was staggered to read that some of our supporters think Ryan Lonie should be delisted. The knock on him is that he is soft and doesn't get the ball enough. 2006 was his BEST season yet, his disposals went from 11.6 in 2005 to 18 last year (his ball use has never been in question) which is a quantum leap from the previous year, and his tackling went fron 1.8 in 05 to 2.6 last year, another big jump. And just for some perspective Nick Maxwell who has a reputation as a tackling demon (and rightly so) averaged 1.9 tackles last year. He's 24 and has clocked up over 100 games so those of you who think he should be punted out of Lexusland need to drink a cool refreshing glass of STFU.

I'm no Ryan Lonie hater, far from it. The bloke has been very servicable over the years for the mighty Black & White....... It just frustrates the hell out of me the fact that he was a better player when he was 20. And,when Collingwood has a poor game, hes always one of those players that goes missing.

Whether or not he gets delisted, hes not gonna be the difference for our premiership side in 2010.

I dont hate him but for us to improve in our hardness, ball winning etc we need to move him on or delist him either this year or at the latest, the end of next year.

We need better players than him in the side, thats what its about.

i dont wanna bag the guy that much cause i aint against him that much either.. though as just stated that when the pies go bad he is 1 who always goes missing..
the logical reason is that he is not a hard player. he is soft and he does
not earn the hard ball..
a seagull is the common word...

ie if the pies are goin bad there is no 1 dishing the ball out to him for the
easy possesion.

Dude, if you chose Jason Wild as a handle you should be lying on a couch talking to a professional. And I can recall Dremott talking about Lonie last year and according to him prior to last season the club said we want you to get the ball more (tick) and we want you to tackle more (another tick). He'll never be a hard nut but in today's football you don't have to be.

Jesus Christ!!.....What would you like to see? A team full of Paul Licuria's and Shane O'Bree's?? Although you need these muscular, ball winning, 'hard' types...we also need athletic 'outside' type players that can kick goals.

My only criticism, and it's not directed at Ryan Lonie, it's directed at Malthouse; is that Lones should never play in the back half IMO. He's far more effective on a wing or as an attacking flanker.

One of the most exciting players in the team when he's on song. Leave him alone.

Let's not be critical of the guy for most likely playing the role he has been given by the coach.

You need players that go in to get the ball, and others that receive.

Probably one of the best left foot kick's I've ever seen from outside 50 -60 on the run. or set shot.

Extremely dangerous.

Always needs a very good player on him.

Just a few reasons why he should be kept..

Erm...no i wouldnt like to see our team full of obree's or licuria's, im not sure why you mention this but anyway..

However i would like to see collingwood full of athletic, hard running, hard tackling, inside and outside players, a bit like a west coast type of player, they do the job inside and out, unlike lonie.

Firstly, Jason Wild was a terrible player. One of T Shaw's favorite sons. I have chosen his name as a joke, not because I love the bloke.

I think it is a valid point re: Mick's coaching of Aba. I have scratched my head several times what hes trying to achieve with him. But I honestly believe you can't rely on your golden left boot to get picked in the side each week. Need to have something else. Even when Lonie is contesting for a 1 v 1 ball hes worried about getting hurt. I imagine at the moment he'd be in the last 2 getting picked each week.

in other words, you want a Kerr or a Judd type, cos West Coast has plenty of outside only players, Jones x 2, Braun, Rosa, Embley to a degree, Wirrpunda.

I like Lonie, agree with previous posters, think he is a great running, attacking goal kicking wingman, however, don't underestimate his defensive skills, he's been given plenty of big jobs, & delivered, Brad Johnson last year springs to mind.

No he wants someone who puts his head over the footy when he has too all those blokes listed do this ryan does not.
He may have a great kick on the run but he often racks up the cheap chip kicks in def, also has had a habbit recently of pannicking and handballing to a teammate 1 mtr away from him who is under more pressure.
PERFECT LONIE GAME THAT SHOWS EVERYTHING HE DOES IS THE DOGS FINAL LAST YEAR , if thats not enough 80% of his other games you can find examples of him waiting for opponents to get the footy then he tackles ineffectively (despite being 1st to the ball) resulting in said team clearing the footy.
Just some reasons to get rid of him.

Lonie is just soft, thats all, he shouldn't be delisted for that, he is way more useful player and way better kicks then most blokes in the side

EDIT. "we need to get better players" no shit but i don't see how delisting lonie will get us better players

i see so we get rid of lonie and magically draft a superkid?

Last week when most of the team went missing collectively in the first half it was Lonie, Lockyer and O bree who carried em. Stats bear it out, I guess we could debate the definition of winning 'hard footy' until the cows come home, but 30 odd touches is 30 odd touches.
