What makes you click on the Like button when you read someones post?

1. I agree with the position taken
2. I don't agree but you presented a good argument
3. I laughed at something you posted ( meme, gif, vid etc)

Chief agreed to pay me 1c for every like i make. Paid lump sum. Yet to receive the payout, but boy it's gonna be big. Already planning early retirement.

I wish bigfooty had options other than "like" (like facebook now has)
I'd prefer a thumbsup/thumbsdown method. That way, the POPULARITY of a post is better judged. Basically, prefer the Youtube method.

But, the way it would works is....you just see a number next to the thumb-up icon and a number next to the thumb-down icon. You dont see who liked/disliked until you click on the icon to view.

There was a dislike button for like a week back in 2012(?) and it went down like a lead balloon. Encourages trolling

True. I don't know why exactly, but there's something a little different between a Like/Dislike and an Upvote/Downvote. Perhaps if there's just a number showing the total up/down, rather than a list of people immediately displayed, it might make it different.

But...even an up/down could still result in the same thing. But really? How is a downvote/dislike trolling anyway? How does it encourage trolling? I don't understand that. To me, trolling is when you actually bait people into a reaction (which i'm a master at, not overly proud of myself)....still....that's trolling. Your act of engaging someone by responding to their post. But if you do a post and you just get back from the broader community a sense of how good/bad your post was received with essentially a mini-vote....then how is that ENCOURAGING trolling?? You, the poster, are not being baited with words to respond back on. Perhaps BF is too thin-skinned regards people "disagreeing" with them.

Also, Chief said this once before....that you don't need a downvote because if you dont like someones post then just dont LIKE it. Same thing. But it's not at all. Here's why....

A post currently gets say 8 likes. Another post gets say 20 likes. But statistically it doesn't really explain much. The 8 like post could've got 1 dislike vote. While the 20 like post could've got 40 dislikes. That would tell a very different story to if the 8 like vote got 8 dislikes, and the 20 like post got 2 dislikes. Two very different stories there.

It's "important" in a mini-vote, community opinion, to be able to see the difference between the likes and dislikes.

Interesting debate.

The other thing is I wont Like a post because I like a poster or over time have come to ''view' them as having similar values. Yet I think there would be a lot of dislikes because you think the poster is a flog or he barracks for a certain team. No other reason at all to do with the post or its content

Maybe....for some people. But i never hold a grudge against any one person. I always treat each post on its own merits, regardless of the poster.

Basically, I am such a fantastic person, if only more BF people could be like me in that regard??

Modest?

When you're so fantastic at almost everything about being a human being, then it's hard to be modest. Anyway, I meant, treating posts on their merits not by who posted them.
