Why dont they??? i think Financially, big John wouldnt feel a thing, and theyll really only feel losing a couple of draft pick. I doubt they can replace Alen, Hammill, Mackay and Franchina
 
For a few reasons, sure they could afford it but its not worth it, if they do it and its looks deliberate the AFL will put real harsh penalties, and besides they don't really look like they will stay up there. It also puts a bit of a bad name on them as a team that breaks rulesand even though essendon don't look it they are feeling the effects. It may go away this year but what about next time, and the time after that. Plus the annual turn over of players as in new players in the draft for old retired players would be gone as most draft picks would be forfeted.
