because of stupid crap like last night getting reported for striking Rivers.

McVeigh, mate we all love ya but for ***** sake, if you get rubbed out for that you will have let your team down very badly considering whats at stake over the next couple of weeks.:thumbsd:

"he" was a little broad.

The strike i heard wasn't all that bad, he does have a bad record, so if he is not cleared, he will be suspended, unfortunately.

there is no way he should become captain of our great club....he is a good player at best but im sick and tired of him trying to be a tough man and getting reported for stupid acts like last night...

im not bagging him just stating the facts.....cmon mark pull your head in mate your a senior player now not some young punk....

There wasnt much in it. That being said, 0 weeks for the act, 2 weeks for being an Essendon player when we are playing Carlton next week. No Bias in that Panel at all. Look how they offered Ryder a suspension for a text book perfect hip and shoulder

You are right. Worst part was that we had the game sewn up, and we really need him next week. :(

After too much dodgy red I went nuts when i saw him tonk Rivers.. Why did he do it?

Although it looks like nothing - guys get 50 meters for just looking at the umps these days... could easily get a week

McVeigh has no carry over points, so previous record can have no influence over the decision.

Yes it can. It just wont add any extra points. If he has been suspended in the last three years, it can be taken into account.

Surely he can just do a Wayne Carey and build his defence around the fact that he hits his grandmother harder. How can you argue with that? :D

Really disappointing. I went to bed more annoyed about him doing that than happy about the win. Just when it looks like our midfield is looking to be at full strength for once and he goes and does this. Just completely idiotic.

Be very lucky not to get a week IMO.

jeez we are all a little precious today are we?
he hardly did anything for one,
i think everyone here has suggested that essendon dont have any enforcers or tough nuts in our team at one stage and the main element we miss is the solomon, MJ, hardiwck types, yet when someone stands up for our teammates shows a bit of spirit you all degrade him and say thats why he shouldnt be captain

remember we are a young team and players like mcviegh need to fly the flag and make sure that our young players arent intimidated.
i want a bit more spirit and physical intimidation from this essendon side personally and if mcveigh gets reported (which he shouldnt) then so be it

i agree with bomberstomake8, what the hell has happened to the culture at essendon when we were the once proud tough team with wallis, hardwick, hirdy, peverill etc and now we're having a whine because one player (whom I admire) was displaying some monrel.

neck up fellow supporters seriously we should be glad he is trying to toughen up the youngsters.

We beat Carlton last time without him. Anyway, I'm sure if they decide to sideline him we'll have a good player to put in his place in the side, like Hurley or Jetta.

totally agree with bomberstomake8 and mick7. We are a very young team and need the leaders at the club like mark to stand an and make sure opposition players know they cant push them around.

personally, i think mark should have been chosen captain instead of matty anyway. matt isnt involved enough in games and when the bombers are down hes nowhere to be found

McVeigh does not have any carryover points – the 74 demerit points he did have from earlier trips to the Tribunal expired in round three – however Knights admitted his club would be sweating on the AFL Match Review Panel’s assessment of the incident.

Points have expired. :) *Whew*

Sorry, I wasn't referring to his carryover demerit points. I just believe a bad record or priors would be taken into account. Maybe not though.
TBH though, It did not look any worse than Barry Hall's last week which he got away with.

Agree.

But there's a time and a place for it. Against a hated opposition, against a better team, or when you're losing by heaps and need to fire up the boys.

When you play Melbourne, you show some pity on them. When you're up by 50 at 3QR and you're playing season-defining games against Carlton and Collingwood the next week theres no need for biff.

Richie Vandenberg ticked off all three of the criteria when he decided to be a hero v Essendon in 2004.

I love Spike, but he has always been an angry individual. He's almost always got that super agro face on that I've simply called him 'Angry' for years. Yes every team needs a bit of mongeral to fire up the troops, but it's not needed against the bottom side when the result is already decided. Captains need to be the one's to defuse a situation, not be the centre of it.

Can someone explain to me how this was any worse than what Mooney did against us the the running elbow to the throat that cost us 50m? It wasnt looked at and this should be either.

He'll probably get 6 weeks for being an Essendon player, we never have a good history with the match review panel anyway NLM 3, Ryder 2 its just crap, but then again he shouldnt have put himself in that position - so therefore its his bad luck, lets move on and bring back in ZAKA .....

I think it was the way it all happened. We were up by around 10 goals, for God's sake, and Melbourne were looking like a bunch of VFL players. Then this whole thing built up for quite awhile before McVeigh was reported. All he had to do was to do some pushing and shoving and then back off.

You know something? we need McVeigh this week for the Carlton game. That's why I'm annoyed.

how is it that people arnt getting the point. it was melbourne, thats exactly the reason you cant let a team thats bottom of the league push the youngens around.

it does matter if we were ten goals up or ten goals down, when you have to fly the flag you fly the flag, no questions. you dont say yeh that wasnt right what just happened but we're ten goals up and it is melbourne so ill let it go.

everyone forgets after hardwick, wallis etc moved on that the bombers were considered soft
