Why I think Geelong will be heaps better in 2016

I've no doubt we will be heaps better with the obvious caveat over injuries plus we will take time to gel with the new lineup
However improving is fine but we must improve more relative to those above us else we don't progress
Big article on Lyon here today about how he is going to improve as a leader - reality is all teams will have improvement plans in place - we just need to do it better and to a level which will advance us
Easily said but not so easily done

Kind of like inflation you have to improve just to stay even but we should do a lot more than that. I actually think this is a changing of the guard type year with Hawthorn and Fremantle dropping back a bit and 2-3 other teams challenging them for top 4 positions.

We'll have a very limited contribution by both Selwoods this season. So really Danger will take the Selwood role from last year and be heavily tagged each week, so it will be up to Caddy, Guthrie, Motlop, Duncan, Murdoch, Cockatoo, GHS,
Menegola, and Lang to elevate our midfield this season....And personally I don't see them being able to do that much better than last year.

Can't possibly know the outcome or output at this stage highly hypothetical Selwood has an awesome endurance base already will be hindered albeit onpy slightly as per last year

How can you possible say that definitely. There is simply no way. Id like to know the next US power ball numbers while you are at it - oh you can't can you..

So your powers of future fact delivery are now topic specific….

Do I think it reasonable to suggest the both Selwoods might miss games? Yes.
Might they be managed thru the year? Yes.
Could it be for the same issues we are aware of now? Yes.

So im not suggesting that the content of your opinion is inaccurate or wrong ( its your opinion) - The delivery of it is deplorable.

And you then wonder why people return fire….

Unless of course your motivation is exactly that...

Personally didnt think was "deplorable"

Poster genuinely has some doubts about the impact Selwoods will have given interrupted pre seasons. Seems reasonable enough comment to me.

Its the fishing intent of the comment combined with the history of exactly that I was referring to….

That is invariably followed by pages of clean up…

Joel is a freak, will take a month tops to get back into form as he's as fit as anyone anyway and he had some preseason before injury.
Scott is back to full training and has since the new year, is equal to everyone else out there re:fitness and joins in to everything.

It's interesting I remember discussing similar flaws about Vardy in 2013, and getting absolutely howled down for it. Funny how things change.
Come on Partridge, Vardy has had a whole three games since then to show us otherwise!

Came here to say the exact same thing. Sensationalist to say the least.

Stanley is a tall and quick player..Imagine him playing on the wing with blitz rovering...Big bodies that are fast and tall with danger and selwoods and mots lurking. Strength and speed there....

It should be noted that
- Smith is no slouch either.
- We've seen Stanley (not just the PA Game) do some fine roving of both his own, and Blicavs' 3rd man up taps.

With the exception of Bartel, and GHS. We have an exceptionally quick midfield.

Stanley, Murdoch, and Dangerfield are 3 of the fastest players in the competition, and Cockatoo makes everyone look slow.

Guthrie, Motlop are both faster than the average.

Duncan, and Caddy seem to be about the norm.

Also, I'd not be surprised if Blicavs and Stanley are spending time together much like Cockatoo and Dangerfield have. As Stanley is very capable of filling that ultra mobile ruckman role that Blicavs tried to create for the last few years (out of necessity) but Stanley has better tools to pull it off really.

Maybe a bit harsh.

If we can get Joel out fit. I dont mind if its round 5, even 10 (presuming we are looking at the pointy end of the season). It will only take 3-4 games to get that match fitness back. Of course he wont come flying out of the blocks but he is the ultimate professional.

Not from what I saw at the open training... hardly joined in the drills, still had a noticeable limp

That isn't to say he won't come good but he hasn't joined in everything

But all along I've thought if he hits form mid year that is ok... he's not a one year boom or bust prospect

Got some interesting feedback around Menegola and his experience since joining the Cats
When Freo drafted him he got 3 texts/calls from other Players , he got 35 texts/calls when he signed with us.
Seems like a small thing but he is as happy as a pig in excrement at the Cattery as he feels both valued and accepted , as a result he is responding back in spades. The Club has laid out their plans for him in detail so he knows exactly where he is at.
I'm sure both Henderson and Smith would have had similar experiences - at the end of the day these are young men and of a generation that responds well to acceptance and positive reinforcement.
This is part of our brand and shouldn't be underestimated :thumbsu:

Only slightly? He's missed the entire pre-season so far and still isn't close to joining the main group. Just ask Dane Swan how modern elite AFL players go missing huge chunks of the pre-season, his 2014 season was dismal.

In terms of professionalism, dane swan is not in Joel selwoods league... selwood missed a fair chunk of the 2014 preseason, his year was very good

Return fire? Who am I firing at? I'm not insulting any posters, I'm not even insulting the club or the Selwoods. See this is the problem with you and others, they take my opinion weirdly as some kind of attack on them personally?!? I don't understand why so many posters respond by simply personally insulting me in so many situations when I've done nothing more than express a broad opinion about the club and its future prospects that they disagree with.

The only two people that might have any right to 'return fire' over my post are J. Selwood and S. Selwood.

He only missed a month of NAB cup games and had done all the hard pre-season running to that point in 2014. This year he's pretty much missed the entirety of it like Dane Swan did in 2014.

I was told the club had internal concerns re Joel.

He may be out longer than we think!

Time for Caddy to step up
Don't tell the truth on here mate, like Plato's escaped prisoner returning to the cave to tell of the outside world you'll get killed.

Common denominator....
