After hearing all the news this weekend about Bucks having a meeting with North, I am just curious as to why this bloke is basically been given the green light to pick any club he wants to coach?....

Is it purely because he was a good player and a brownlow medallist?

I honestly think that Bucks will jump shipt the minute Eddie offers him the Pies job... but its starting to annoy me that other richmond ppl i heard talking on the weekend were worried North may beat us to get Buckley!

i think alot of ppl are looking at what Voss has done with the lions and expecting the same of buckley, Voss was coached by the greatest player of all time, was in the greatest team i can remember and won 3 flags in a row... clearly that is alot better resume than anything bucks has to offer!

i can also think of another good tough player who really hasnt done much as coach... M.Harvey..

But then again, i thought Knights wouldnt last a season as coach!...

1. He will demand respect like no other person in the AFL.
2. He wont put up with mediocrity and crap.
3. He has tactical nous, smart player, smart man, will be a smart coach.
4. He will improve the professionalism at Richmond 10 fold.
5. He will boost membership a lot.

I'm more interested to hear who's going well through our "process" but the info on that is non existent.

Hardwick Hinkley, Richardson and Viney are who I want to hear about.

Massive hype probably genertated by Buckleys management and then has snowballed in the media. Is a first year coach really woth 800k?

Buckley was a great servant of Collingwood and I believe he will be their next coach.

Apparently North want to sign him up for 5+ years, I doubt he will accept this as it will reduce his option to go to the Pies as I feel Malthouse may only be there for another 2 years or until King Eddie moves on.

Let North have him if they wan't, their are other assistants out their more likely to coach a side to a premiership than North Melbourne

Buckley is no different to the Sheedy frenzy. Both blokes have lots of potential upsides. Bucks biggest upside is that he seems to be prepared not to settle for second best in either a hasty decision to go to North or an assistants role at Collingwood and that he is prepared to do his best in our selection process in order to get the job. Unless my facts are wrong it would seem that he very much wants a stint at Punt Road and is prepared to earn it. If so good on him. Even more good on the Club for not caving and chasing him

The thought of these notions are just orgasmic:D

Leigh Matthews would fit the above criteria. Biggest diference is Matthews has coached a football team for a season of football before.

Vossy turned out to be a decent coach
So Buckley must be...right?

Voss had a top 8 list to work with, Leigh left Brisbane in great shape with key posts filled all Voss had to do was re light the fire in some of the older players bellies.

Brown, Black, Power, Bradshaw, Charman then a hand full of talented youngsters Adkock, Clarke, Brennan, Proud, Leunberger, Rich, Rishcetelli ect ect.

Also Buckley has been coached by Walls at Brisbane then Leigh Mathews, T.Shaw and Mick Malthouse at Collingwood. So he has had a wide range of views on footy passed on to him by several coaches.

BTW to those saying he will jump ship at the 1st chance of going to Collingwood, I suggest you read his book.

Is John Longmire in the mix?
No, he didn't apply for the position will be coach at North next year or hang around at Sydney until Roos is done since he has that spot guaranteed

T.Shaw
If having a wide range of coaches is the key criteria give the gig to Martin Pike.
He had Neil Balme, Bernie Quinlan, Allan McConnell, Mick Nunan, Dennis Pagan and Leigh Matthews. He's coached his own senior team and won a premiership or 4.

i agree that buckley is very much a professional... but aint all the candidates? Maybe all this hype is purely to get Collingwoods management to rethink signing malthouse and doing what it seems most pies supporters want and give the job to Bucks... just like they did with Shaw! lol

I honestly beleive we do need a coach from an entirely different culture and background then tigerland... Rawlings is infected, so definately not him!

what are the chances of nabbing Roos??

I think the reason why Voss turned out to be a decent coach was because he has played with the current crop of Lions as well as being a Brisbane champion. He lives and breathe Brisbane more than anything else.

The other reason Buckley's the rage is that Collingwood and Richmond stories sell papers so who are they going to write about between Nathan Buckley and an assitant coach at Sydney or Hawthorn. Gavin Brown and Mark Neeld are better qualified than Buckley.

Wow Wee, there's one from left field. Is he out of contract though? Would love to see him at Tigerland but I think Sydney love him too much

Well Sydneys list is at the end of its life, so its hardtimes ahead for them! so maybe Roos may wanna come back to Melb where it all begun!, and Longmire can rebuild the swans!

win-win :)

The term professional is a 'person who is paid for working etc.'
Ffs $800,000 is more than 'very much a professional'.
Is this how much we are paying Rawlings lol.

Let's see... In my opinion Buckley is like that kid of your boss who comes into your work.

Sure, he's had loads of practical experience but no formal training. Would you pay someone like that over half a million dollars a year? He's like a uni graduate, but one that missed the most important classes.

The chances of him taking the reigns and driving a good club into the ground are more likely than him coaching a team to a premiership within 3-5 years. He may have tactical experience, but can he communicate that effectively and does he have the people skills to mentor kids?

Personally I think Buckley needs to go and be an assistant somewhere for 2-3 years first. I'm surprised he never did his 'apprenticeship' under Malthouse with a view to taking over eventually.

He's unproven and NMFC and RFC could do better imho.
