He's a big unit too, i remember quite a few yrs ago....he was laid up w a broken leg or leg in plaster reason and he was down in the tab directly opposite the opposition rooms underneath the northern stand (they still there ) having a punt & winning....cut a long story short, i'm 6'1 & lean...hehe and he towered over me !!!! solid as hey...:D;):thumbsu:

Ninja - I just thought I would be being a little greedy by envisioning 2 long term tallish backman come out of basically the same draft/at one time. Gillies has had good raps by his old coach, talent people and some of players and, most importantly, by participants of threads like these. Sounds like there is some promise there.

Have not seen much of Laidler and have not really read too much on the guy except on this site. Perhaps he could be a player - I think he seems to be the sort of player a few more pre-seasons would help him.

I was really hoping Mitch Brown would play all season and then do a good pre-season and see him in the NAB Cup, but alas these plans have gone badly. I even thought, just for a moment, that at times I saw something in Scott Simpson - he seemed relatively athletic and could, perhaps over time, be a player (at 196 cm - good height for a CHB !) - but alas a broken ankle has seen any progress he may have made - blunted.

In some ways, if Ottens, Hunt and Egan were available most of this season - our reserves side with Pods could have been a cracker of a team. Especially if some of the new recruits did not have injuries most of the season - like Motlop. I think it is fair to say Varcoe (Snr) progression was hampered by injury in his first year. It does take a year then longer for most to find their feet in the AFL system - from a longer term injury.

It has been a bad season for injuries at Geelong that many would not, outside close watchers of the club, know that so many injuries to a diverse range of the playing group (long term and week to week injuries), even to the younger draftees, in the end will probably slow development of individual players, and consequently the progress of the club. I reckon its been our worst injury year (except perhaps 2007 for losing Egan) for quite sometime. Where is Prismall when you need him ?
