does it really matter if he misses the first 1 or 2 games ???

suppose he comes back and averages 100 (like Lappin in 07')

for just 176k, he's gotta be worth the risk... surely

The highest he has ever averaged is 90 in '05 from 22 games.

In 06 he played 12 games. Missed all of '07, missed all of '08 - although he did play some VFL late last season.

Remember reading he had a slight injury during the pre-season, could easily be wrong with that that though. Personally see him as far too injury prone and there's alot more safer options out there.

i would say averaging 90 in 05' is the equivalent of averaging 100 in 08'

and injury prone or not, he would only have to play 10 or so games to spike in price.

i thought the current injury wasn't going to keep him out?
are we (at least) certain he will miss the first few games?

I have 1-2 waste trades factored into my year.
I would prefer to field a more solid starting 30 and should Coughlan return (if at all) and play 2 solid games then I will use a waste trade to pick him up.

To me it feels abit like picking up Drummond should he suffer a 4 week injury today.
Just too risky.

ive got a spot open for him still he is competing with skipwirth, mackay, swallow

thanks Saint_KFC

okay. so he's a minor chance to play rd1.

but, given the current circumstances, the real question we need to be asking is this..... if he is not named in rd1, will you still buy Mark Coughlan ???

think back to Lappin 07. i'm going for it.

I admire your guts, but it just isn't for me.

You can tell us to think back to Lappin '07, just like I can tell you to think back to Coughlan '07 and '08. First it was a Round 1 return, then it was a Round 3, then that got pushed back to Round 5, then he broke a nail and was set to return in Round 10, that got changed to Round 15 and eventually, the man hasn't played a game of AFL football since the middle of '06.

Originally I had him in my team - this new setback has been a bit of a wake up call. If he doesn't get named Round 1, who is to say that he doesn't go back to Coburg for a couple of early games before returning in Round 5/6? Too many variables, too much potential for something to go wrong and overall too risky a proposition for me to take.

Good luck though.

There's a high chance he's not even in Richmonds 22 anymore. Will take a few good weeks in the reserves to earn his spot IMO. It's not only a waste of $176k but a bench spot where a rookie ($90k cheaper - can be used to invest on the field) could be earning you some cash, but it's your team, he could end up a fantastic risk that pays off :).

dont think hes best 22 either. Maybe with Cotchin and Johnson out he could be but they will return and he wont get a spot.

Most injury prone person ever. I think skipworth represents more value in the same price range and he will play rd 1 and the bomers 22 is easier to stay in than that of richmond.

Pfft, easily best 22.

When you miss 2 years of footy, you have to earn your spot back. A lot has changed in those two years and he will have gotten slower than he already was. Even if he does get a game there are huge risks associated with his hamstrings.

It's not like he will keep his spot for the year if he is fit, Richmond have great depth in thier midfield.

Cotchin, Johnson, Tuck, Cousins, Jackson, Deledio, Tambling and thats the tip of the iceberg.

But, on the flip side, class is permanent..

forgetting foley is a criminal offence ;)

Cougs = to injury prone

as a tigs fan defiantly hopes he plays but for dt way to risky

As much as I don't want to admit it, Cogs playing AFL again is pretty slim. He is way behind most of the squad in training, the time he is up and running, working his way into our best 22 will be really hard.

I'll only get Coughlan if he has played 2 games (with reasonable scores) and is selected to play his 3rd.

Your trying to enforce proper English on a bigfooty forum..
Goodluck you could pick apart 50% of posts here.

Normally I don't mind, but that one especially annoys me. I mean, how can so many people get it wrong?

yeah that one is pretty funny and i've never seen it anywhere except bigfooty
