Why you ask?
How can a loss be great.
Well i'll tell you why, Saturday nights loss could be the best thing that happened for the club in the future.
Most would agree it was highly unlikely Carlton would win the premiership this season, so in the coming years when we are genuine flag contenders and we are in week 2 or 3 of the finals, if we get 5 or 6 goals up in the last quarter the players have learnt their lession not to stop until the final siren so another final doesn't slip through our fingers.
Plus having such a young team combine with some players at the end of their careers, the loss could/should make the group hungary over the pre-season to rectify this seasons lost oppertunity.
Sometimes one can not really appreciating something until it's lost or gone.
It will more next week i reckon when the boys are watching the final instead of playing in it!
