Why you ask?
How can a loss be great.
Well i'll tell you why, Saturday nights loss could be the best thing that happened for the club in the future.
Most would agree it was highly unlikely Carlton would win the premiership this season, so in the coming years when we are genuine flag contenders and we are in week 2 or 3 of the finals, if we get 5 or 6 goals up in the last quarter the players have learnt their lession not to stop until the final siren so another final doesn't slip through our fingers.

Plus having such a young team combine with some players at the end of their careers, the loss could/should make the group hungary over the pre-season to rectify this seasons lost oppertunity.
Sometimes one can not really appreciating something until it's lost or gone.

It will more next week i reckon when the boys are watching the final instead of playing in it!

I am not sure why you have to be five goals up in a final only to lay down and lose to make sure that the next time you are in the same position in a final you don't do the same thing.

Surely it would be better not to lose in any final in that way.

It will also put a bit more pressure on Ratten after he continued to play one-on-one in our backline when Bower was on one leg and Brown was in the zone covering the length of the Gabba. Alot of positives provided the people at the club realise they had only Fevola up forward as a legitimate target, along with the hardness deficiencies around the ball and key position problems we have.

I'm not suggetsing by any means i prefered losing i'm just saying how it may benifit the club now that we have lost.

Fair enough.

But to play devil's advocate for a second, if for some reason we don't make the finals next year I wonder how we will be looking back on this lost opportunity then?

Lets just hope it eats away at the players all bloody pre-season and they strive to do every thing in their power to get their bodys, skills, fitness, etc. in the absolute best condition possible. The loss should give them the extra motivation to make sure what happened on Saturday is never allowed to happen again and that they will make up for it by giving us the supporters the ultimate success in season 2010.

I was at the game sherb, and the Carlton guys simply ran out of legs. Early in the last quarter when Judd was being rotated off the ground, he could barely get off the ground - it was like he was running on the spot.

I might also add that the crowd played a pretty big part in getting Brisbane home - they were very very loud, and really inspiring to the home team.

I was sitting behind the goals that Brisbane kicked to in the last quarter. We refused to play defensive in the last quarter. 3 of the Lions 6 last quarter goals were a result of our players refusing to run backwards after a turnover in our forward 50. 3 Lions players were left unattended in of those of those goals. No Carlton player within 20 metre. Was sickening to watch.
