Why did we renew Sando's contract in the offseason?

As much as I loved him in 2012, he did regress in 2013. But to then come out and give him an extension when the jury is still out?

I don't know yet whether he's worth keeping on beyond this year or not. But to just give him the extension? That's what pisses me off.

I think he has a future, I think he'll lead us well, but the decision came way too early.

It's not the coaches fault that he has inherited a side subject to two years of severe draft penalties, loss of the best recruiting manager in the history of the club, successive years of losses of some of the best young players that the club has and non compensation for losing Tippett.

We are just starting to feel the pinch of these penalties and will continue to do so for a number of years yet.

Club also lost gunston and Davis that admin were not able to convince to stay. Lost the equivalent of 3 first round and 3 second round draft pick (if you include the loss of compensation for losing Tippett) through straight incompetence. This is a minimum of 4-5 new players in the team right now. That's a quarter of our side that currently has inferior players in it to what it could have. That is a loss of on field performance being felt right now. 2-3 years is a long time in footy. We are feeling the start of the decline just kicking in now.

Danger himself pointed this out in his card article last week. Players know it as well as anyone.

Someone pointed out on 5AA that Sando's one good season came when he inherited a super fit side from Craig and his fitness manager (forget his name). They screwed up last year so badly that even with an improved emphasis on running this year they've still put us a year behind Burgess and the Power who've now had 2 preseason a focusing on getting super fit.

Exactly, we've put ourselves in the same position as Manchester United.
We either stick at it with a coach who isn't up to the task.
Or we have thrown a shit load of money down the drain paying out his contract.

We have to rely on things changing quickly, or it's a lose/lose situation we've placed ourselves in.

Don't bother trying to separate the off field from on field problems. Part of the on field failure is clearly a consequence of lack of talent. A large part of that is the direct result of off field admin failures. This will continue as we are only just feeling the first affects of this hole in our list.

Yeah but whose going to sack them. They're not going to sack themselves. I couldn't believe it when it was circulating in the media in the off season about giving Sanderson an extension. After last year the club owed it to itself to wait until the end of 2014 before making a decision on Sanderson. The jury is still very much out on him in my opinion and now the club have tied him up until the end of 2016.

I just hope Bassett is leaning a lot from Thompson because I dare say that he could very well be coaching us in 2016 or 17

Yeah Glenno agree but in reality that is what occurring all these easy decisions of people for people that are not going to rock the boat within the organisation and that why Smart got his spot and why Bassett will never be coach of our club .

I said at the time the decision to extend Sando's contract was a risk we didn't need to take. I hate knee jerk reactions but I must say that it is looking more and more like a dumb decision. Sure we still have the option of paying out the contract but this is from a club that let Burgess go to the Power because it would have cost to much. This club reminds me of the previous administration of Coles. A giant in the retail sector and yet were getting flogged by their main rivals Woolworths. Like them we need to change, starting from the top.
