The bottom six on the present table is looking rather ominous. They are WCE, Swans, the Dee's, Bombers, Freo and Richmond. One could argue that these 6 may be around the bottom of the table come years end. They certainly will struggle against the elite sides. Out of these 6, we only play Freo twice...and Freo may well prove to be one of the more competitive of this 6. What this means is that each win this year for the Crows is added gold! We cannot afford one moment's lapse. This means making the four will be extra hard for the Crows. Personally, I wouldn't want it any other way!

It'd be great if we can win some early ones because we have a cruel run home.

While there's pressure on for spots, the old guns are frisky and we are not hampered by injury this could happen but we are a young group so fingers crossed.

Going to be a tough job this year.

I am not convinced that the Swans will be big sliders though they always play a competitive gameplan which will keep them around the mark.

I still see us struggling to make the 8 this year, I think though that we will be around the mark together with Sydney sitting anywhere from 8-12.

Essendon and Melbourne will be bottom 2, WCE and Freo will also be struggling. They will more than likely make up the bottom 4.

Just as long as everyone keeps in mind that we aren't contenders and we ARE going to lose games that we probably shouldn't due to the nature of our squad. But the quicker we get games into our younger players the better they will get and subsequently the better AFC will get. Lets enjoy this year for what it is and not go nuts if we don't dominate a competition we realisitically cannot.

I agree with spexau. In the end, winning close matches like we did two days ago is a wonderful feeling and it will be invaluable for people like our five youngsters to experience that sort of match against Collingwood at the MCG (considering we almost never get to play there), but of course, it's hard to see us getting a flag this year. I'd dearly love to see us finish in the top 8 again but only because I really respect the attitude of the AFC. In my mind they have "bottomed out" as much as the are going to and this year is the bottom of the barrel for them. After this year things start to get better. If they can still make the finals after turning a list with a single teenager in 2004 into a list with 14 teenagers now (and an additional 12 players between 20-22), without having missed the eight even once, and then become premiership contenders in a year or two, it will be one of the most impressive feats in AFL history.

For now though, I expect us to get simply outclassed by the Hawthorns and Geelongs of the competition, but if we can keep our competitiveness up and win the close ones I'd be really pleased.

I think we will really set ourselves for these games. I would like to think that we really take it to the Hawks at least.:thumbsu:

I think this year will of course be, as usual, pushing for the best, bu doing it with more youth.

Saturdays game was a great experience builder and it will be great to get some more big games into the youngsters.

I agree. I think it will be improbable that we will make the eight but not impossible. With Port / Brisbane / Carlton improvement they may just squeeze us out. However with the emphasis on youth and going through a mini rebuild, the future certainly is exciting. How exciting is Patrenko!

True, but this isn't news. Sides that finish in the top 8 play 4 other top 8 sides twice, and 3 bottom 8 sides (from the previous year).

The 4 top 8 sides we play twice are: Geelong and Hawthorn - the two obviously outstanding sides in the comp, and St Kilda and Collingwood - two teams who have given us trouble in recent years. The two sides we only play once are Sydney and the Bulldogs, who are the two we would arguably fancy ourselves against.

The 3 bottom 8 sides we play twice are: Port and Carlton - generally accepted as two of the big movers this season, and Fremantle which, given you have to travel to Perth at some stage, is probably favourable to us as we struggle against WCE.

So it was always going to be a tough year, and I see us just missing the 8. But in terms of player development in a year when we were never likely to win a flag anyway, it will be invaluable. I think we'll have some great wins (Saturday), some awful losses, but a lot to get excited about for the future.

Yes. That's correct. Thank you for marking my work.

I still think Macleod is a great player. Hentshel will hopefully have a cracker year. Mckay has got some pace to burn. Porplycia plays very tall. I wonder if Gille will get back in the side this year.

Only if your from NZ jenny hehe..

Witty: Yeah I hate missing coffee in the morning, never puts in good stead. Got mine today though :)

It is good to keep a lid on things and not have unrealistic expectations, but I am surprised by those who don't think we will make the eight. My preseason prediction was around fifth spot, and that was after the draw came out. Lets hope I am being too pessimistic!

Is that you Mike Sheehan, nah cant be he knows too much about the Crows.

I'm going to stick with my original prediction of 10 wins, 10th place. Who knows what will happen, but with the side we have we might well lose to Fremantle in Perth in a few weeks. It will be a very up and down year. Form won't necessarily be a guarantee from one week to the next.

It's exciting actually.

Lets take it one week at a time........

I'd like to think that we will be 4 and 1 going into the showdown. St Kilda, Freo, Geelong & Melbourne. I honestly think we are good enough to beat all those teams bar Geelong. I'm not getting ahead of myself after Saturday's win but i just think there is a super opportunity to get some early wins on the board.

Yeah I was looking at our draw and thought that was a possibility. Would be bad if we lost to Melbourne but you could probably call the St Kilda game a 50/50 and the Freo one a 60/40.
